Old stone cottage in terraced row on cliff top. Views of rolling hills on one side, sea and village on the other, 5 minute walk downhill to the village, cafes, pubs and beach. Cosy in winter time, airy in the summer, perfect place to unwind.

The space

Ours is a cosy, light-filled stone cottage in the middle of a row of old miners' terraced housing with some sea views on one side and rolling hilly fields on the other. We love being part of the Staithes village, but benefit from being on the hill top of Cowbar Nab, so we have the views and we're able to catch the sunlight for much longer than those living down in the village. We also have a private parking space, with permits for two more cars! This is a real advantage for unloading, and if you are planning to explore the surrounding area. The cottage has a light airy feel, but the wood burner and storage heaters keep it snug in the winter.

Down some steps there is a small lawned garden which is sunny nearly all day. On the other side, there is a private area to sit out and enjoy the sun from mid-day onwards, as well as take in the spectacular sunsets. The cottage is available all year round, with a minimum stay of three nights. If you’re looking for a long term stay for an extended break or to work on a project, we can negotiate some attractive rates! We clean the cottage ourselves so we can keep standards high. We’re sorry we can’t accommodate pets, and we ask you not to smoke inside the cottage.
The kitchen is galley shaped with sea and cliff views. It’s basic and practical with simple electric oven, fridge, washing machine, microwave, toaster, kettle and blender, as well as a vast collection of crockery, cutlery and pans. There is a dining room with table that seats 6. We can also provide a high-chair if needed (plus some tot-friendly wooden toy train tracks and toy animals for fun). The living room has a sofa which converts to a double bed if required and a wood-burner, television & DVD player with Freeview and CD player, as well as a wide collection of books, games and CDs. Phone signal is usually ok at this outpost and internet connection was installed in April 2015 for those who want to plug in.

The wooden open tread stairs lead up to three rooms. The double bedroom, with double bed, has a walk in cupboard and chests of drawers for storage, and looks out onto fields and hills. The small bedroom, with twin beds (one pulling out from underneath the other) and small wardrobe, has sea views. If you would like to borrow a travel cot, just let us know. There is also a small bathroom with bath and over-bath shower (with sea view when the window's open...) and heated towel rail. Additional heating is from a combination of night-storage heaters and plug in radiators and the hot water comes from a solar panel and an electric immersion heater, which is on a timer, with a booster dial in the dining room.

We welcome a maximum of four guests. All fuel and linen is included in the rent. The walk down to the village is beautiful but steep and there is no public parking in Staithes, which might be something to take into account if any of your party has restricted mobility.

Guest access

Everything in the cottage is yours to use including the logs for burning and the nightlights.

Interaction with guests

Our interaction is mainly through text and email, given that we live an hour and a half drive away, so you'll have plenty of privacy, but we're always available to contact and can visit if any issues arise.

Sorry, we don't allow pets in this place, or smoking anywhere indoors. You don’t need to do a massive clean up when you go, but we'd ask that you please do follow the short checklist in the house manual before leaving - simple things like switching off radiators and closing windows. Please do also wash up and put any rubbish in the outside bin. If you visit during the summer, the plant pots would be grateful for some watering. Other than that, we’d just ask for common courtesies to the neighbours in regards to noise, and simply respect the property as you enjoy it! :)

Superb cottage in great location very close to the centre of Staithes but far enough away to enjoy some stunning views of sea and countryside from the windows. No need to take any extras. Everything you need is there. Loved it.

This was our second stay here and it was such a treat to be able to return. The house has everything you could need (and more) and the location can't be beaten - walking down the hill into Staithes every day was a real delight. We travelled with two young children (4 & 1) and they both loved it as much as we did. We're already thinking about when we'll be able to return - hopefully it won't be too long! Nicola, Mick and Tom are the perfect hosts and a brilliant example of Airbnb done really well.

We had a wonderful few days at the cottage which is in a perfect position for the steep walk to the village and harbour. The views are breathtaking. There are some lovely walks along the headland and a nice sandy beach to have a swim. The cottage is very well equipped, with everything you need for cooking up a nice meal. Nicola and Mick provided lots of brochures and maps to explore the area. The cottage is much bigger than we expected and very cosy. We would definitely recommend Nicola, Muck and Tim's place and would love to return. Marion and Brenda

This cottage and the hosts are the best! The location is almost unique, the village is a must to see and Nicola Mick and Tom could not be more helpful. Anything you could possibly need or want is made available. We would love to have stayed longer but souch more to see.

Lovely, cosy cottage in a great location at the top of the village. It was very nice to arrive to a delicious home made carrot cake and to find some fruit juice and milk in the fridge too. We enjoyed sitting on the bench outside watching the night sky with a glass of wine. All of the family had fun playing with the board games.

We're from Yorkshire - we love travelling, especially visits to forests and coastlines. We have a grown up family who have set off to travel the world and we're hoping to follow their example soon.
