The room was spacious and clean, with a refreshing sea breeze blowing in through the large sliding door. We were in one of the six rooms with an excellent view of the beach which was just a quick walk down the stairs. The hosts were friendly and had lots of good advice for things to do and how to do them. When we required a doctor they were able to recommend a polite and affordable one in town. The accommodation is a short walk from Tulum's most famous and trendy modern restaurant, Hartwood. There are loads of other bars and restaurants along the beach road too. It's a quick taxi ride into town where you can find cheaper eats and more bars, as well as supermarkets to stock up on water and other essentials. It's a similar distance to the Tulum's ruins. While we were there, the beach and ocean had a lot of seaweed, which we've read does happen from time to time. If this is the case during your stay, we'd recommend heading to a cenote for a swim. There are many that are a short car trip away, and they are really beautiful, in addition to being cool and clean. We had a great stay and can highly recommend Playa Canek!

We loved our stay at Playa Canek! Communication was really good leading up to the stay. We read the reviews so knew exactly what to expect from the shower and other amenities. Occasionally the electric dipped in and out, but that is something that happens all down that hotel strip - not confined to Playa Canek - it really did not impact our stay. The room was great, the bed was nice and the room was immaculately cleaned every day. Fresh drinking water is provided for the room every day, and you can request more if you get through it. The beach was great. It was fairly low season during our stay so we had no issues getting a sun bed. The drinks at the beach bar were great and so was the food (which came through from the restaurant at the front). Breakfast was great too, especially the smoothies. All the hotel staff are super helpful; Daniel and David on the main desk were always there to help, and Fernando in the restaurant is amazing - always really upbeat, talkative and having a laugh with you. Trips were easy to organise at the front desk. The little convenience shop next door was very helpful. La Eufemia is a great fun taco place 5 mins walk down the road. Would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful place to stay in Tulum. Amazing beach view, nice restaurant with delicious juices and pancakes for breakfast. AC did not work good, as the room is located under the roof, salty water in the bathroom, but don't forget: we are in the jungle :-). Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful, thanks!

Mixed bag here. Good price relative to some of the other nearby places but with considerable issues. We stayed in the ocean view king which did have a lovely view. The main issue was the air conditioning. The room has a high thatched roof so the air conditioning did nothing to actually lower the temperature. It was 35 outside at night and 34 inside. Other issues: the bathroom has no ceiling which makes for an intimate toileting experience. And a warning for anyone over 6 ft tall - your knees will hit the wall when you sit on the toilet. The WiFi was pretty unreliable in the rooms but seemed to be stronger near the lobby. The beach was small and would likely be pretty tightly packed if the place was full but we didn't run into that. The breakfast food was fine but nothing special. Lots of better places are very close by. Apart from the price, the other good parts where the staff who were all very friendly and helpful, as well as the yoga classes next door - quite good. Overall if you want to save some money and aren't worried about sweating a bit at night then this might be the right place for you.

The staff is great! The room clean and basic. The balcony and view amazing! The toilet situation and the proximity to the wall in front of it, challenging as I'm 6'1. But all in all great value!
