So much in life these days is immediately known.

We hope that when you arrive at Pumice Tiny House after seeing the photos of it in it's surrounds, that you will enter and explore the interior and hidden details with intrigue, surprise and delight.

You'll experience a hand-crafted space that makes it a truly unique place to stay ... with its: cocooning comfort of straw bale, outdoor fire and water features and bespoke furniture and fittings.

We look forward to welcoming you here.

The space
Pumice - as she is affectionately known - is a 45 sqm straw bale tiny house built in the picturesque town of Ohakune on the slopes of the majestic mountain Ruapehu.

The project is a labour of love for long time friends, Evan and Kevin- who wanted to create a space - for others to enjoy and a platform for precious memories.

Pumice sits in a quiet residential location alongside a small stream just a 3 minute drive (or 15 minute walk) away from the centre of Ohakune - with all its charm and amenities. A casual 10min walk to our favourite cafe / restaurant, OCR ( Old Coach Road, on Tyne Street.)

Pumice is designed to be enjoyed by a couple, a lime plastered straw bale cocoon enclosing an open plan living, dining area, with a kitchenette and sleeping space . The bathroom with shower vanity and toilet.

Interior has a comfy queen size bed, bespoke wardrobe, drying cupboard (around back), smart TV, Wifi, built in dining table, plus: vacuum, toaster, kettle, under bench fridge, gas hob, and combination convection/steam/microwave oven. There is no dishwasher.

There is a compact bio-fuel fire to balance the superior thermal properties of the straw bale construction with thermally broken, double glazed windows and doors. A cool overhead fan provides sufficient air movement when required.

Outdoors there is a stream-side fire area, a shallow reflection pool, and undercover patio - along with a gas BBQ for alfresco cooking.

The stream next to Pumice's fire patio is feed by a small lake a few blocks upstream and makes for a pleasant walk. Plenty of interesting chalets to appreciate enroute. A network of urban stream trails offer great mountain viewing, dog walking and a chance to meet others. Some trips are just a great solo outing. More adventitious trials of the "Old coach road" and into natural wilderness are super handy. The folks at the I site in town are a wealth of help with these options..
Kowhai Heights is a quiet cul-de-sac, balanced with a bit more action on Miro Street. Locals get quite excited when there are more than 5 cars a day !
Evenings seem to see plenty of folks enjoying a stroll and making the most of their days.
With the outside fire patio set down politely adjacent to the stream with its snuggled environment is quite inviting and private.
