The Colorado's beautiful Cimarron Valley and the Black Canyon RV and Cabins Campground beckon fishermen and hunters and those seeking just a relaxing stop along historic US Highway 50 with views of the valley and San Juan mountains.

The space

The Kokanee Cabin (Kokanee are freshwater salmon) at the Black Canyon RV Campground and Cabins is a comfy cabin that can sleep up to 4 comfortably. The kitchen, living area, full bathroom and one double bed are on the main level. The wood trim and stairway of red cedar leads up to the loft bedroom which has three twin beds. The outside entry area has a small patio with a picnic table. ( Dec 1 to May 1 -- Laundry facilities may not be available during this time.) Pets not allowed in this unit.

Guest access

Guests have access to campground facilities which include barbecue areas, campfire pit, rec field for golf and horseshoe play, kids' playhouses, laundry and shower building. Free WiFi and cable TV. (Dec 1 to May 1 -Laundry facilities may not be available during this time.)

Interaction with guests

Campground hosts Larry and Bob are available to provide information on the area's hunting and fishing options as well as other sightseeing and recreational venues. They are friendly locals who will do all they can to make your stay in the Cimarron Valley as pleasant as possible.

Other things to note

The Cimarron Valley and surrounding area is in an amazingly beautiful and scantily populated area of the Colorado Rockies. US Highway 50 that passes through the area is mostly two-lane and the Black Canyon RV Campground and Cabins sits conveniently off of this highway (expect some occasional minor traffic noise). We are also located between two minor mountain summits, Cerro Summit toward Montrose in the West and Blue Mesa Summit toward Gunnison and Blue Mesa Reservoir to the East. Shopping, grocery stores, and restaurants are 23 miles west in Montrose or 42 miles east in Gunnison.

The Black Canyon RV Park, Cabins and Campground is a great place for reunions as well. Besides RV sites, 4 small cabins and 2 larger cabins, the campground also includes tenting sites and a lodge. The lodge has bunks for up to 10 people, a large community room with a large screen TV, and full kitchen.
Minimum stay of 5 nights from Dec 1 to May 1. (Laundry facilities may not be available during the winter months.)

The cabin was the perfect stay for the last night of our family vacation, and the proximity to Black Canyon couldn't be beaten! Larry, who checked us in, is very knowledgeable about the local community and wildlife and provided great tips and insight on the places to see! Our in-laws are already planning their own return later this year!

We were so happy at Bob's cabin – after three nights of camping, it was the perfect place to get clean, do some laundry and sleep in a comfortable bed. We had a great dinner out on the porch and enjoyed the gorgeous view of the sun setting behind the mountains. Our kids loved the twin beds upstairs and the little playhouse on the grounds. Everyone was very friendly, especially Larry!

This cabin was the perfect size for our family of 4. It was located between Curacanti and Black Canyon for us to visit both. Due to being close to the road, traffic could be loud but it didn't really bother us. Larry met us as we entered the park and everything was as he said. Great stay!

The Kokanee cabin was a great find and my son and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Easy drive to great fishing, hiking, and if course the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. Everything we could have needed was provided and we only wish we could've stayed longer! Thank you Larry for being such a wonderful host! We will definitely be back :)

Beautiful cozy cabin, ideal for a family thanks to the extra bed upstairs. It felt like a second home as soon as we walked in. The campground is secluded, 25 miles from Montrose, but surrounded by beautiful nature. The highway 50 passes by so you might hear a truck once in a while. Overall we do recommend the cabin!

The beauty and recreational opportunities of the Cimarron Valley where my family lives and operates the Black Canyon RV Campground and Cabins convinces me daily that I live in paradise! We love to hunt and fish and have this in our own backyard! Our campground is a center for fishing and outdoor recreation in the Spring and Summer and a hot spot for hunting in the Fall and early Winter. And - we have many people who stay in one of our cabins or in the RV campground and just enjoy the peacefulness and beauty of the valley and mountains.
