The space

Magnificent farm-house of the 17th century, in a wild and untouched region of the Girona Pyrenees, a dream for all those who enjoy hiking or mountain-biking in the wild. Surrounded by woods and silence for many miles around, at night we can't see a light other than the moon and the stars. We enjoy more than 300 sunny days a year. We rent out two guest-rooms on the first floor of the beautifully refurbished house where we live, and an independent apartment on the ground floor. We also have a large luminous hall (100m2) with parquet floor available for group events, workshops or retreats. We are devoted to the development of a sustainable rural culture based on the principles of Permaculture. We are focused on : - Approaching rural reality by promoting eco-tourism - Managing a family based self-sufficient farm - Providing a space for human development in harmony with nature The house is almost self-sufficient: the heating is worked by the central fireplace, and electricity is produced by solar panels. We make our own bread, pasta, game sausages, marmalades and jams (from our fruit trees and from wild berries and nuts), and we grow our own organic vegetables. We breed chicken and ducks. We rent our guest-rooms with half board. In our kitchen We use almost only self-grown organic products, cooked with great care, as well as those of other local farmers, to cook our specialties. The West room is furnished with two single beds and a double futon sofa-bed; and the South room, with a double bed and a sigle bed. We also have a spacios living room reserved for our guests, as well as the panoramic terrace with a breathtaking view (the house is on a high pass between two valleys). The apartment consists of a big luminous hall with high vaulted ceilings, with an American kitchen, the fireplace, a big dining table and a comfortable living area including two double sofa-beds; a sleeping room with a double bed and a bunk-bed; a spacious bathroom; and a cosy garden terrace under stone vaults, with a barbecue. Thus we offer two different modalities of accomodation: self-catering independent lodging and guest-rooms for a stay with half board. Our two guest-rooms share a complete bathroom. We never rent them separately to different guests at the same time; we only rent the two of them for one group at a time.

- Managing a family based self-sufficient farm
- Providing a space for human development in harmony with nature

The house is almost self-sufficient: the heating is worked by the central fireplace, and electricity is produced by solar panels. We make our own bread, pasta, game sausages, marmalades and jams (from our fruit trees and from wild berries and nuts), and we grow our own organic vegetables. We breed chicken and ducks.

Guest access

The independent accommodation, fully equipped, occupies the entire ground floor of the farmhouse. It has a large living room, with high vaulted ceilings, complete kitchen and fireplace, dining area and living area (with two double sofa beds); A bedroom with a double bed and a large wooden bunk; And a full bathroom with shower and laundry room to wash clothes. The spaces are spacious and bright with high vaulted ceilings. In addition, there are exterior stone porches, also vaulted, which create a cozy terrace open to the era, with wooden tables and chairs, and a barbecue with firewood always available. The house enjoys natural air conditioning, since the walls of stone of 80 cm of thickness assure a perfect isolation. The maximum number of seats is 8. However, for groups of up to 19 people we can rent the whole house, ie, the ground floor + 3 rooms on the first floor (a room of 4 beds, with private bathroom, and other 2 rooms sharing bathroom, one of 4 places and the other of 3). In this case you would also have at your disposal the fabulous terrace with panoramic views and the spacious living room on the first floor. You must take into account, but, that we live in another area of the same house, so that, even and enjoy full privacy and independence, you will not be renting an independent house. In addition to the natural water pool, children can enjoy the tree swings (we also have board games for rainy days); Although children will certainly enjoy more than anyone especially with our animals: hens, ducks, many chicks, three puppies and several cats, all very tame. Since the nearest supermarket is in Figueres, you should anticipate in advance what you may need. We can offer you some of our ecological products: • Bread and fresh pasta. • Vegetables of the season. • Fresh eggs. • Paté and homemade sausages. • Homemade jams and preserves. We also offer the service of half board or full board. In our kitchen we use almost exclusively organic products of own harvest and elaboration, and we can adapt the menu according to your preferences. Breakfast on the terrace with homemade bread and pastries, homemade jams from our fruit trees, homemade sausages and fresh fruit juices are a priceless gift for the senses. In the house we have 3 adorable puppies and several cats, and all the animals are welcome, being able to be free in all the spaces of the house, both interior and exterior. Of course, we ask for a supplement of € 5 per night per dog / cat. We also propose different activities according to the season: • Interpretation walks of the natural and human space of the Alta Garrotxa (minimum 5 people). • Guided tours of 1 to 3 nights by the Alta Garrotxa and Vallespir (minimum 5 people, difficulty: average). • Workshop of elaboration of sweet and salted preserves. • Bakery workshop. • Sausage production workshop. • Workshop on identification and drying of medicinal plants. • Nights of astronomical observation.

This summer we spent the last 4 days of our holiday at Amanda’s place. We are with a family of three kids (8, 11 and 16 years old). We all loved it! The place is beautifully situated at het end of a 30 min. dirt road going up the mountain. Although it looks a bit scary, it’s very doable. Even with our rented fiat-500. The place itself is lovely. Very well equipped. We spend most of our days relaxing at the house, playing with their dogs or taking walks in the mountains. We are not trained at walking, but with the routes that Amanda gave us we were able to walk all the way down to the river. We also took a walk up the mountain to visit an old chapel. All our kids loved it! Nice well-marked trails with some climbing and excitement for the whole family. Amanda and her husband are such nice people. They gave us a warm welcome and advised where to go and what to see. If you want, she can cook for you or make you breakfast.

We stayed with Amanda for 1 week and had an absolutely superb time. Everything about the place was literally amazing, and I can honestly say we have never had a better a vacation. The food, location, people, and the home were all incredible: The Food: Dino and Amanda cooked dinner for us every night and it was truly terrific - absolutely gourmet stuff. Almost all of the food comes from the organic farm that they manage and it is wonderfully fresh. Every night we had something different and unique and every night it was genuinely delicious. Location: The location is spectacular. To get to the house requires a bumpy ride up the mountain, but it is absolutely worth the trip. The views are incredible - even better than the photos in the listing. It is really secluded, and you have sweeping views across the Pyrenees and the valleys below. The swimming hole nearby is stunning and absolutely worth the hike. There are also a lot of hikes to nearby monasteries and chapels, which we did not take but were highly recommended by other guests staying with us. People: Amanda and Dino were fantastic, and treated us so well. They manage the farm and house all by themselves and do a terrific job at everything. We will absolutely be back again. Home: The house is also magnificent, and the spring-fed pool was great for splashing around in! It has sooo much character - and we spent every afternoon lazing on a hammock on the terrace, and taking in the views. It is a real sanctuary! In summary, I cannot recommend this place highly enough - our trip could not have been any better. If you like good food, views, and a little peace-and-quiet, you will be hard pressed to find anything comparable!

Response from Amanda:
