Ohuka Lodge epitomises peace and tranquillity.
Nestled amidst secluded farm land this is the ideal retreat to escape from city life, while still having the luxury of home comforts.
Whether you choose to relax on the deck overlooking the farm, or lounge inside in front of the cosy log fire, Ohuka Lodge is the place to recharge your batteries.
There are a variety of walks on offer meandering over farmland and through native bush, compasing stunning views and waterfalls, maybe sighting a deer.

The space
Guests love the privacy, peace and beautiful surroundings of Ohuka Lodge. Visitors have described the experience as a wonderful retreat summing up the absolute seclusion of the Lodge. In fact, the lodge is so private the nearest neighbours are the cows and sheep in the nearby paddocks.
Adding to the ambience, are the resident Tui singing from the Gum tree, the New Zealand pigeon, (Kereru), that feed in the mulberry tree and the haunting, melancholy night time call of the Morepork, (owl).
Feeding the pet animals delights guests, both young and old. In the spring there are often lambs and calves which require bottle feeding and are always happy for an extra feed to please the visitors! Chickens supply fresh eggs which our guests enjoy when supply allows. The farm dogs are also very appreciative of the attention they receive and are always up for an ear scratch and pat.
Visitors are often able to participate in the daily working of the farm and enjoy watching large mobs of cattle and sheep being moved. Experiences have included guests visiting the woolshed to watch the shearing, when the shearers remove the wool from the sheep. When time allows we offer tours of the farm taking guests over our 1100 acre property where the country changes frequently and offers stunning views including magnificent waterfalls, catching glimpses of wild deer and the sun set behind the impressive Panekire Bluff. There are many farm walks available from short, easy walks to more challenging day hikes. All of the walks offer plenty to see although some require more serious exertion.

Where you’ll be

Wairoa, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand

Ohuka is a great place to stay, with the amazing Lake Waikaremoana just up the road, home to the Great Walk, which takes 3-4 days encompassing impressive views. There are also short day walks which are equally impressive. Mahia beach only just over an hour away, home to Rocket Lab, and a lovely spot to visit. Further on is Morere, hot minerals pools to ease those tired muscles.
Wairoa has a some great cafes, East End, and Oslers famous NZ wide for it's pies. The Museum is worth a look and the Long River Gallery boasts amazing art work from Wairoa's talented artists.
The walkway wanders along beside the river to the river mouth meeting the sea at Pilot Hill, a great spot for a rest, before meandering back to Wairoa.
