The space

A Farm Stay in a quaint 2 bedroom on an old trout farm and nursery. The property is on 20 fenced acres about 8 miles south of Durango.

The West Wing (apartment) has a full kitchen, one queen bed and one double bed and one bath with a shower. The apartment is comfortably suited for 4.
You have a beautiful view of the mountains from your front porch and deck. We are surrounded by 90 yr. old cottonwoods, about 500 fruit trees, large vegetable gardens, numerous ponds and a small stream that runs through.

Spend a few days or more on a small farm in a beautiful location with plenty of space to relax. Ponds, cows, sheep / lambs, goats, chickens, a dog and 2 cats. We even have a horse barn with 3 stalls. It's like living in a park only better. Just 15-20 minutes to downtown Durango and all it has to offer: great restaurant, galleries, Durango Art Center, theaters and much more.

The stay was quiet and relaxing, which is just what we were looking for. The location is a short drive from Durango and Vana was super helpful with our late arrival since the location can be a little tricky to find in the dark.

Vana and Doug's "West Wing" at the Old Trout Farm is a slice of country charm. We enjoyed gorgeous sunsets and stunning views while sipping cocktails on the porch and grilling outside. After a day of riding the trails and rails of Durango and Silverton, it was a perfect, peaceful retreat. If you long for quiet country living, this is the place for you. Vana is a lovely hostess and we had everything we needed at our home away from home.

Paradise found. Great mountain retreat with the kids. This large country estate had everything we could expect and some fun discoveries. The hosts were friendly and accommodating. The place well stocked with books, comfortable furniture and a great kitchen. We had a memorable relaxed vacation.

The place was awesome, very close to Durango (by car), with the feel of being in the middle of nowhere. I would have loved to stay longer and enjoy relaxing on the porch with my coffee! Hosts were very nice and communication was great and easy.

Vana and Doug were great hosts. They were readily available and responded quickly when we had a question. Our boys ages 6 & 11 loved Miss Vana and she took them crawfish hunting and pointed out where to find worms on her farm. Our stay was very enjoyable and relaxing. The kitchen had nearly everything we needed to make most of our meals for the week. A pizza cutter and a mixing bowl were all that we were missing and we improvised nicely. The farm was only a 10-15 min ride to town along the beautiful Animas river. So we didn't mind the drive especially so that our boys could run around on the farm. Even when they got in trouble doing age appropriate boys things, Vana was understanding. We only found two negatives during our stay there, mosquitoes and no air conditioning. If we walked outside we had to coat us and the kids in bug spray, which is to be expected on a farm. The first half of our stay was hot and even w/ fans caused the indoor temp to be 80 degrees. I could tolerate that but my allergies couldn't. The latter half of our stay was more comfortable as temps dropped but I still had a hard time w/ allergies having all the windows open. That being said, it was not a deal breaker. We would definitely stay here again!

I grew up in Utah but have lived most of my life in Colorado. My husband and I retired in 2009 from the nursery business he started in 1983. We are both very active first with the farm and then with traveling the world in the winter months. I love biking, hiking, running and y…
