I've arrived late from the airport and Franca opened the door. The buzzer works perfectly just press F. For Franca. Then the next day she allowed me to have brekkie and snacks. I had the kitchen to myself basically. There were 2 other Chinese girls here who helped translate my English with Italian. Franca is always available when you need her to open a door or help you lock up and unlock the front door. I was so happy to be here for the week. I traveled here all by myself from California and was a little scared but it feels so at home in her house. The rooms are upstairs. Penny Market has great food for cheap if your here for long. Most food shops in the city center are overpriced. Cheap market named Le Cascine Open Air Market on Tuesday morning (8-13:00) for fashion, clothes, shoes.
Franca is awesome!! She goes out of her way to make sure you get everything you need, and that you learn a little Italian along the way! She really strives to connect with you even if she can't speak your language. Great person, and the other people who stay with her (she has a big house) are also really cool. I can't imagine my experience in Florence without her and the people I met there!
This was my second stay at Franca's home, so I already knew what to expect. A clean comfortable room, cool air conditioning to combat the June temperatures in Florence, and a friendly and accommodating hostess. This location offers easy access to the city center via bus or taxi, and is also very near the airport. I was able to reserve a taxi by phone to be picked up at 4am, and made arrangements to leave my key at an agreed upon location near the door when I departed. I hope that whenever my travels bring me back to Florence, I can once again enjoy Franca's friendship and hospitality!
We were with Franca for a very short visit, arriving one afternoon and leaving at 4:15 the next morning. It was a very hot day, and having control over the airconditioning in our room was great. I had a bronchial infection, so we were able to keep the temperature just at the right level for a cool, but not cold room. Franca offered to make breakfast, but we declined as it was so early. The location is great. It is easy to get around, there is some parking on adjacent streets. We look forward to returning for a longer stay.
I would say this location is a B&B more than just a private room. The house is divided Franca lives on the first floor and 3 private rooms are upstairs with a shared bathroom and a large kitchen. Photos are accurate. I liked the bus stop was a 3 minute walk and two buses could be taken to downtown Santa Maria Novella Train Station #2 & #28. The times (every 20 Min during the day 30 at night) were displayed at an electronic screen at the stop. Its a 10-15 min ride to town. Train station is on the same street where the bus stop is but I did not use this form of transportation. Franca is a great host, she woke up to make me coffee at 6:15am so I could catch an early tour. Pastries are served with coffee and it can be enjoyed outside in the garden with fresh air in the company of fruit trees. Beds/rooms are huge and comfortable and the room has AC which I turned on every night. NO noise issues at all. I thought it was great choice for a 4-day trip.
I wish I could give more than 5 stars. Franca deserves at least 12! She keeps a spotless and well appointed home with all of the modern conveniences. I was truly treated like a favored family member at her home. In addition, this location is easily reached by taxi from the airport, so it is ideal as an arrival location at which to rest and recuperate after a trans-continental flight to Firenze, or to stay prior to departing. I accepted Franca's offer of dinner for 8 Euros, which allowed me more time to rest. She's a remarkable cook and I would have paid more than twice that amount for a meal at a restaurant, which probably would not have been up to her exacting standards. Franca is always available, either in person, or by telephone, and she and her husband were very gracious in helping me adapt to Italy. Rather than just an overnight destination, my stay with Franca has become one of my best experiences in Italy. Mille Grazi Franca!
