We have converted our fine old granary into a small pension. The building lies near the lake and the river and just beside the newly renovated mill which has the largest water wheel in Kronoberg county.

From the veranda to the south/west you can look down over the park where you have a nice view at the lake and the old giant oaks. At this lake down our park there are no one else but us

About the pension

The pension has 7 rooms with separate toilet.
You can stay from two to three persons in the rooms.
There is painted dadoes and beautifully wallpaper.

The granary is smoke and animal-free. One of the rooms is handicap-friendly and has access out in the open as well as to the common areas indoor.

The common area indoor is roomy and cosy and has allså beautifully wallpapers.

The old granary

In the common areas of the granary you have access to:

- Scullery and kitchen with stove, microwave oven, refrigerator and freezer.
- Dining room and living room.
- Two showers.
- Drying cupboard for drying of wet clothes and boots.
- Living room

You clean after you and leave the house in same shape as you came.

By the way - did you know that?

• the lake is very low, very suitable for splashing water and bathing children?

• you can rent a boat, canoe or kayak at favorable prices when you stay with us?

We run a small family tourist busniess that require a permit, which means that you can ensure that the accommodation meets the fire-technical requirements for hotel operations, that the accommodation regularly has supervision from the emergency services, that the drinking water is checked with sampling several times a year. There are no such rules in Sweden for landlords who rent out privately or where they have chosen not to notify their licensed activities.

Guest access
Vartorp has an impressive park, created in the 17th century – by one major Eketrä. He realised his dream of gathering all leaf falling trees belonging in Sweden in his park.

The park goes all the way down to the lake and has its longest side along the beach. Her nature and culture meet. The giant `jätte` trees planted in the major's time still stand, majestic in age and size, while parts of the park have become forest and are allowed to remain that way.

Several of the trees are lost – some have fallen for the storms and the ravages of time and are lying on the ground. They come to life again when they tempt children and simple souls to go balancing or play an adventurous game of hide and seek.

The atmosphere of the park also invites you to sit alone and just be, look out on the lake and think.

The many old ruins from the golden ages of the farm are spread around the park. They make you want to take a closer look and they stir your imagination.

Maybe you are just longing to sit quietly and watch and listen to the water?

Chairs and tables are at disposal at several places by the lake, as well as places for bonfire where you can build a fire, look into the flames and follow the flying sparks filling the sky with little stars.

Vartorp is surrounded by a large forest which you may explore when hiking in the area. The 1,000 acres of forest which once belonged to the farm is now a state forest.
You may walk the established forest roads or you may try finding the marked paths into the unknown. The park and the forest along Mörrum river are classified as areas of nature protection. Birds, insects, animals and plants enjoy the benefits of this protection.

The Mill – Vartorp Kvarn

Throughout time, the river has given power to the old beautiful mill, or `kvarn` as it is called in Swedish.

The mill is very well kept, it is still capable of milling corn.

The wheel of the mill is the largest in Kronoberg county. From Vartorp farm it is a few minutes' walk to the mill over the old stone bridge, where you can enjoy the sight and sound of the water rushing through the lock.

Go fishing

Vartorp is exactly where Mörrum river runs out into the big lake Övrasjön which has an extent of about 2 x 3 km. Mörrum river connects Övrasjön with the lakes Drevsjön and Örken to the northeast and with Sörabysjön, Öjaren, Tolgsjön and Helgasjön to the southwest - before it finally runs out into the Baltic through several other lakes.
Övrasjön and Drevsjön makes up a fishing area to which only one fishing licence is required.

These two lakes have the following species of fish: Perch, white bream, silver bream, pike, burbot, roach, tench and trout.

You can use several different fishing methods, amongst others: Fly-fishing, angling, trolling

Fishing is allowed in most of the lakes if you buy a fishing licence. A licence for Övrasjön and Drevsjön can be bought from us. You may also rent a boat or canoe including life jackets on a daily or weekly basis.

The water at Vartorp comes gushing at Vartorp old mill – today a beautiful attraction – and by the river and the lake.

The lake is ideal for bathing, and lake and river provide great opportunities for canoeing and fishing.

Vartorp was once a great manor with both mill and sawmill turned by the water from Mörrum river and with thousands of acres of land.

Today the farm is a peaceful setting for a unique holiday, which satisfies the dreams of a simple holiday in nature as well as the request for modern comfort.

You can rent a habitation in our big nature park where you stay in real tepees and cook over open fire. Or you can rent e newly renovated room in the old granary. No matter what, you have the beautiful Småland nature with lake, forest and fishing just outside.
