The space
This fascinating house was started 20 years ago by some of the original ‘Hippies’ in Golden Bay and has recently been restored and skillfully completed.
It is of funky and fun design with all rooms on different levels. The house is perfectly oriented towards the sun and views.
The cosy feeling of the wooden interior combined with the indoor/outdoor living and stunning sea and mountain views make it hard to want to leave this place. You can watch the ever-changing moods of the sea from the lounge, enjoy the sunsets from the large deck or soak in the outside hot bath under millions of stars. The downstairs room is accessed from the outside only and has access to an indoor shower and an outdoor bath. The toilet is outside, however it has covered access.

A $100 cleaning fee per stay is included - the longer you stay the cheaper it works out.
All prices are for 2 people sharing a bed and are per night, if you require an additional bed made up please contact us directly ($30 charge applies).
$30/night per extra person/bed.

This home is great for family holidays.

Where you’ll be

Wainui Bay, Golden Bay, New Zealand

Situated at the top of New Zealand’s South Island and adjacent to the Abel Tasman National Park, Wainui Bay has a slow pace of life with an abundance of natural beauty - perfect for a holiday retreat.
Many elements of New Zealand life the way it used to be, are still remaining in Wainui Bay. There’s a small family run farm, lots of native birds and no shops and people still have time to go to the beach.
When it comes to natural beauty, Wainui Beach is one of Golden Bay's finest examples and is within easy walking distance of Golden Bay Hideaway. It's a great beach for swimming or exploring the rock pools and sandspit. Standup paddleboarding or kayaking are highly recommended!!
If you pick your tides, a rock-hopping trek to Taupo Point is an adventurous highlight with an old Maori pa site, historical links to Abel Tasman and the first landing of Europeans in New Zealand. Taupo Point is a special place and is considered to have sacred value to the local community and iwi. Beautiful sheltered coves and small islands surround it - dolphins, seals, sea birds and schools of fish are often found here. and of course there are the well-formed walking trails of the Abel Tasman National Park.

I spent ten years travelling the globe mostly by motorbike, living and working in places like Africa, New Guinea and Europe. For four years I was an Outward Bound instructor in New Zealand. I moved to Wainui Bay and started working on Golden Bay Hideaway in 2004. We believe in a sustainable future. We created Golden Bay Hideaway to demonstrate practical, comfortable and cost effective eco-home solutions. You can come and stay anytime and experience how we've created the best eco-homes in New Zealand. For me and the feedback I've had from international riders this kitesurfing spot is as good as it gets!!!
