The space

Our first return visit after last year and we shall return again in 2018. Luiz & Isabel are charming and could not be more helpful. The recommendations they provided for walks, places to see and eat have always been fantastic - they added considerable enjoyment to our holidays. Located on the outskirts of Funchal the property has panoramic views of the town below and the hills above. Whilst we hire a car and walk the levadas, public transport is very easy with buses and taxis within metres of the door. Everything is very clean and the swimming pool provides welcome relief from the heat. Both house and pool towels were provided along with a hairdryer. In the kitchen there is a drip filter coffee machine with filters provided, kettle, microwave, induction hob and a fridge. Good upgraded wifi since last year - particularly upstairs in the bedroom. The air conditioning worked well when we needed it. Several bars, restaurants and a small supermarket are a less than five minutes walk away. A huge supermarket with free car parking is five minutes away by car. The property is a fantastic base from which to explore the stunning island of Madeira or, to stay and relax in well organised and comfortable surroundings.

Luiz was an excellent host with plenty of useful tips on what to do and see in the area. The villa itself was also lovely, clean and very large for 2. The area was convenient, with a small restaurant, bakery etc in the area. Parking was also very easy.

This is a really friendly place. It is very quiet and peaceful with a handful of little local bars, shops and restaurants within very easy walking distance and the locals are great. Funchal centre is a 10 minute hop if you are looking for more and the bus stop is just outside the door! The views from the terrace are amazing and we spent many an hour just basking in the sun and using the pool (which we had to ourselves for the whole visit). Luiz and Isabel are a really nice couple with a lovely friendly family and make you feel very welcome. For a small island there is quite a lot to do and Luiz and Isabel are happy to leave you alone to your own devices and company but will also gladly advise and help organise any activities should you want any help or support. Communication should never be an issue for visitors as Luiz is multilingual. We have now visited a couple of times which is strange for us as we never tend to go to the same place twice and we do intend to visit again.

Thank you for our lovely stay - the properties in general were lovely and in really nice locations (we stayed in Funchal as the house was unavailable for two nights of our stay). We really enjoyed Casa de Poco, especially it's balcony for sunbathing. The parking was also good in both locations - especially important when you hire a car. There is a bakery, supermarket, bars and a good restaurant all nearby, as well as good transport links. Clean towels, comfy bedding and a kitchen good enough to cook a couple of simple meals in made us feel very comfortable. However, I would say that when you describe your rooms as having wifi throughout this is misleading as there was nowhere in our little property or balcony where we could get signal (the pool area was fine). Likewise, your property is listed with air conditioning which is not true - when questioned on this apparently no properties in Madeira have air con, so why advertise it? At five months pregnant when searching for properties we selected air con as a must and also selected wifi - neither of which were available as we would have expected from the description. These were the only minor issues in an otherwise lovely stay and I would suggest updating your listing to more accurately reflect what you provide, especially as searches for properties can be defined by these categories (as ours was).

Our stay turned out to be alright. The apartment is as the pictures show. The layout is somewhat inconvenient. The owner is very hands on and keen to have a personal approach and for more introvert people, this can be perceived as pushy. I do believe he means well. Our apartment was overbooked for the last night. The double room we moved into for the last night is wonderful for romantic couples just a nightmare with a baby. No space and not even a bin to throw diapers away. I recommend Luiz and Isabel to just decline a booking when overbooked to prevent disappointment. As we provided feedback during our stay, we found out that the owner was very keen to justify all feedback. This made us feel extremely uncomfortable and we hope the owners will understand that feedback is just feedback, not a competition. Thank you for having us.

I came to Funchal for the first time in search of inspiration to start writing my first book. I didn't know the island at all, but I knew I wanted to find peace and serenity which is still within easy reach of city centre. I found that and much more at Luiz's place. There are 3 beautiful cottages offering accommodation for all needs, and the pictures don't do them justice - you'll be pleasantly surprised how beautiful the grounds are, how homey the cottages feel, and how much history rests within the walls of where you'll be staying. I stayed at the Couscous House, where couscous used to be made from scratch - all the original tools and machines are beautifully displayed in the house. The location is perfect! There is a lovely local bar and restaurant (and I do mean local, without a tourist in sight, serving awesome grilled meat; try their burger which is like no other, served on local bread made of sweet potatoes). Down the hill (5 min walk) is a local bakery - delicious. A supermarket is a 10 min walk. The city centre is about 15 by bus (10 min walk to bus), or about 10 min by taxi. The host is beyond expectations - the type you don't get to come across often. Luis welcomed me with a history of the island, proposal of activities to undertake (I've done the hiking trail Pico Ruivo), tour of the grounds, and a glass of local wine. He also arranged the taxi, and was there to answer any questions I had (lives on the grounds in his own house, but gives guests all the privacy they need). I'm a super host myself, so trust me, Luiz exceeded all my expectations. Can't wait to go back. Best wishes to Luiz and Isabel, and to you, hope you enjoy this beautiful property on your next trip to Funchal.
