Response from Brent:
Admittedly between the misspelled words and poor grammar, I have had to re-read this review numerous times to decipher the apparent meaning of this critique. However, I comprehend their issue: Scott/Mindi dislike the So-Cal coastal area. Indeed as Scott/Mindi disclose, they failed to research the area. Accordingly this review should NOT be specific to my property , but to the entire 60 miles of San Diego-So Cal coastal area. Yes it is located in North County San Diego and near the railway line that has been there (Email hidden by Airbnb) was constructed long before anyone occupied the same. In fact , at that time, the only population base was downtown San Diego some 20 miles south. TO EVERYONE reading this review, feel free to “ (Hidden by Airbnb) ” the coastal railway corridor beginning @ downtown San Diego to San Clemente, wherein the railway turns east. This 60 mile stretch of coastline has the Surfliner track that runs anywhere from right along the coast itself to no more than ¼ mile to the east. THIS MEANS that ANY/ALL vacation rentals in that 60 mile stretch will have railway noise associated with them. But this does not impact the result that the vast majority, if not all homes, along this stretch cost @ $1 million -$10 million and perhaps more. Obviously, all of us who reside here, find the train to be acceptable, and in MANY CASES enjoyable as it relates back to a time long ago, and likewise fulfills a timeless need. As far as this renter's core issue--apparently the noise--welcome to San Diego CA home to close to 4 million residents, and in top 10 most populated areas in the USA. Obviously-- the closer you get to the coast-- the more concentrated is the population. Yes there are railroads, roadways, highways, interstates, airports, sports stadiums, shipyards, shopping centers, and populated beaches next door to just about any residence. And my property has some roads and the tracks, but none of the rest. In fact, as my ad states, in the still of the night the OCEAN ITSELF can become so loud, one may need to close the windows! But alas I personally LOVE that sound (which in and of itself can sound very much like a passing train, and quite a bit louder if high tide or storm related). But to suggest that someone can come to coastal So Cal to find peace, tranquility and quiet-filled bliss is a bit optimistic at best. The trains in front of my home, as well as the thousands to my north, thousands to my south and tens of thousands to my east all are near these tracks (remember the tracks were put here first, then people built there later). Since San Diego is a destination point, and not a pass through at least the rail traffic is relatively light compared to neighboring communities north of us (Orange County and LA) where trains pass through en route to south. Commuter trains run past every 30 minutes or so in morning and late afternoon. Amtrack runs by every 90 minutes or so, but is done by 8ish in evening. Overnight a slow moving freighter or 2 might go by. But realistically by 7ish it is quite peaceful and quiet. It is important to note that any passing train comes by as quickly as saying: (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) ! That is the length of time a train speeds by. After about the third time it happens most people become used to it and is quite innocuous. Finally to add insult to the injury: the Del Mar KABOO Rock festival was the same weekend as their stay. Since the venue was less than 5 miles from the cottage, my girlfriend and I seriously considered declining this request because we were strongly considering attending the event, primarily because Tom Petty was to perform. We predicted that it might be our last chance to see him. The fact that he passed a little over a week ago, is extremely ironic as our prediction came regrettably true. In retrospect, we shoulda canceled. Then Scott/Mindi could have booked someplace else. Instead not only did WE miss the concert, but I take this hit. Goes to show, no good deed goes unpunished. If you've read this far--feel free to read the following review--by Mike, who departed just a few days before Scott/Mindi arrived. Its a much more accurate depiction. As are almost all the others. Almost everyone else loves the cottage and its location. But as life is, there is always someone who will complain. I just needed to set the facts straight CHEERS!
