HawkRise looks out over the rolling vineyards and farms of the South Wairarapa, and is just 8 minutes drive from Martinborough wine village and its restaurants, cinema, golf course, shops and wineries.
Our 5-hectare park-like property offers peace, quiet, relaxation and spectacular views. Climb the hill to the regenerating forest area, picnic in the orchard, check out the ducks on our farm dam and, if you enjoy star-gazing, you will love the clear, starry night skies.
On hot summer days, relax in the shady courtyard, or enjoy the sun on your deck.
Designed by influential Wellington architect Gerald Melling, HawkRise's eco-credentials include grid-connected solar power and solar hot water heating, taking full advantage of Wairarapa sunshine.
The cottage comprises a spacious self-contained studio—which sleeps two in a comfortable Queen-sized bed—and an adjacent bunk room, which can sleep another 4 people in two double bunk beds.
The studio has a small kitchenette with microwave, electric frypan, toaster and kettle... and plenty of kitchen equipment to whip up a meal. The cottage is next to our house on the property, and has its own entrance, sunny deck and outdoor area.
Tariff: $120.00 per night for the studio [queen size bed, up to 2 people]; Cot available on request [no charge].
$40.00 for each extra person per night (in the bunkroom) [up to 4 people. Bunk room can only be booked with the studio. ]
Substantial breakfast provisions are included in the tariff—homemade muesli, yoghurt, English muffins, fruit, homemade jam, honey.
We prefer bookings of 2 nights or more, and there is a 2-night minimum on event weekends [Toast Martinborough, Martinborough Fair, vineyard concerts etc].
Cooked breakfasts and meals are also available by arrangement. Let me know if you are interested.
Detailed directions on how to get to HawkRise will be sent once bookings are confirmed. The address is a private unsealed road so not always visible on maps.
Wander round the property...check out the birdlife, the orchard, or just sit and watch the sun set over the valleys.

Owen and I love living on our hillside just outside Martinborough. I work in Wellington and commute several days a week; Owen works from home or travels to work with clients. We enjoy working on our land, planting trees and developing the gardens ...and are also happy reading, watching movies, listening to music, cooking (me) and eating (both of us!), and relaxing with friends. Owen loves watching cricket and good rugby and is a wine enthusiast; building up a cellar of local wines is a long-term dream project.
