Overall the home was as depicted in the pictures and a pleasant place to relax but it did have unexpected inconveniences, and the interactions with Amber were uncomfortable. To begin, the home is in a pleasant quiet neighborhood with easy walkability to coffee shops and some…

I feel terribly Marina had this experience and did my best to communicate that to her. It was all a very an unfortunate turn of events and I feel bad that her stay did not end on a positive note. To address all the issues a bit on my end as the host, there were two separate groups that were staying in my home before Marina while myself and my family were away on vacation. Marina and her group were the last people to stay in my home. My housekeeper was flipping the house in between guests for me. I asked my housekeeper to empty the fridge between guests and, as it would appear, she forgot to do this. I feel badly about this and had I been the one flipping the house, I would've made sure to clear and clean the fridge. I will now definitely be stating in my checkout guidelines for guests to please empty their food from the refrigerator upon checking out. Next, the drip in the main floor bathroom (which, as she stated, I notified her of before she arrived) was a completely separate issue from the water in the basement. The water in the basement I saw was coming from outside, which likely happened when my neighbor came over to water my garden and looked like excess water traveled down the basement stairs into the basement. This of course happened in between Marina's stay and the last guest who stayed before her, so the puddle wasn't there yet when my housekeeper came to flip the house and therefore she had nothing to notify me about. The first time I knew of the basement water was when I got back from my trip, after Marina was gone, and saw it myself. I hadn't heard from Marina during her stay and did not realize she had confused the water in the basement with the drippy faucet in the main floor bathroom. So when I saw the puddle and hadn't heard from her I didn't know what to think and was put off there had been no communication on her part. Again, as I didn't know until she called me that she had confused the drippy faucet with the basement water and thus the reason why she didn't think to contact me. It's all just such a mess of a situation and I feel badly for assuming wrongly, but I really was in the dark myself an was upset to find my house in the state that it was. As far as the lack of communication, in my experience with Airbnb as a host and guest there is usually some interaction between hosts and guests during the duration of the stay. I've never experienced anything different. I understand guests wanting to unplug and I completely encourage that however, as a host, I like to check in with my guests at least once in the beginning to make sure check in went smoothly and my guests are settling in ok, have everything they need and to remind them I'm available if anything comes up or they have any questions. To address the cigarette smoke and cigarette butts I found. I still have no idea how those things got in or around my house. I know it was not from the previous guests who stayed because, as I said, my housekeeper came to flip the house in between guests and never mentioned anything about any smokey smell or cigarette butts (she has been working for me for awhile and would definitely say something about it). I would imagine Marina herself would mention something about it if she smelled smoke in the house or saw any evidence of smoking as well. I feel horrible for assuming this was Marina when she assured me it was not, but I really didn't know what else to think. I have two young children and I was alarmed by what I saw and smelled on my property. I care about my guests and hospitality and cannot express enough how sorry I am these misunderstandings occurred with Marina and that she had the experience she did.
