Experience traditional Greek village life whilst staying in a small organic guesthouse. From here you can explore the stunning scenery, unspoilt villages and beautiful beaches of the Mani. Exochori is just one hour south from Kalamata. Staying in this guesthouse you get a lovely breakfast and also have your own fridge for snacks and cold drinks.
Exochori is 7 km from Kardamili and is on the edge of the Viros Gorge, an ideal base for hiking
We are Greek Tourist Board registered.

The space

Our guests tell us that this is a peaceful place to stay, and is like stepping back in time to the Greece of 20 years ago. The village is a quiet haven but still near enough to the coast to enjoy the sea. We are a great base for hiking, with many excellent paths from the village in the foothills of the Taygetos Mountains. We are beside the spectacular Viros Gorge, a must for any photography or adventure enthusiast.
We have two double/twin rooms, so we can accommodate 4 people maximum. It is fine just to book one room.
Due to the steep drops in the garden the rooms are not suitable for children under 10 years.

Guest access

As well as your room there is a guest bathroom, fridge and kettle. Breakfast is included. You can sit in the shady garden with your book, or sip wine on the terrace.

Interaction with guests

We are always around at breakfast and can help you plan where to go and what to see. We have maps and guidebooks for you to borrow. Caroline your host is a qualified walking guide and regular takes groups on hikes through the area. You can pick her brains!
We can also tell you about good places to eat and drink in the area.

Other things to note

The last 80 metres to the house is down a steep cobbled path, so it is not suitable for enormous luggage or people with mobility difficulties. There is no vehicle access to the house.

Amazingly renovated traditional stone house on the foot of mount Taygetos. The location is ideal if you are interested in both hiking excursions and swimming in gorgeous beaches , which are only a 10- minute drive away. Also great if you are into cycling like ourselves. But if you are feeling lazy one day, all you have to do is relax in the garden and enjoy the view. The wider area has a great variety of interesting places to visit such as traditional villages, archaeological sites , beaches both cosmopolitan and secluded, trust me you won't get bored. Our hosts made us feel very welcome and they were very experienced in knowing and providing for the needs of a demanding traveler, not only concerning commodities but also information and services. Will definitely come back !!

This is a lovely property in a quiet, friendly village with good access to walks from the property itself or a 20 minute drive to the coast. We stayed in the room with the double bed and balcony, which appeared to be larger than in the picture. The room (and house) has been restored to a high standard and was immaculately clean. A delicious breakfast is provided at a mutually agreed time, eaten outside overlooking the garden. There are at least two good restaurants within walking distance (at least in summer, check with host if out of main holiday season). However the best bit for us was meeting Caroline and Kristine, who are friendly, amusing and informative hosts. As we don't speak Greek, they were able to give us an interesting insight into some unique aspects of living in a Greek village.

This is truly the perfect location. An authentic Greek village, that offers it all. Amazing setting in the forest, just a short drive away from beautiful beaches. One foot on the mountain is a gorgeous old stone house that has been restored to it's original beauty. A lot of care and thought had been taken to the aesthetics of our room and to the property on a whole. One can enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the gardens, the stunning views, and above all, the warm hospitality of the hosts.

A magical place with perfect hosts. Every single aspect of our stay - accommodation, breakfast, location and especially the hosts - was fantastic. Would definitely stay there again.

One Foot on the Mountain is a lovely place to stay. The reality of the rooms and space is even better than the pictures. Caroline and Kristine are great hosts - available if you need them and also leaving you to get on with it. The room was very comfortable and beautifully decorated. The bed spacious with cotton sheets and provided a great nights sleep. The shower was one of the best we had in our trip to the Mani. Breakfast comprised of a lovely fruit salad, bread and jams with coffee or teas. The path to the house is steep and cobbled as advised. The local tavern welcoming and good food. The area is wonderful - we walked down towards the gorge - photographing bugs and butterflies as we went and absorbing the beauty of the silence and the awe of the mountains. We will return to walk the gorge another time. We visited the churches in Kastania which have the most amazing frescoes. It really is worth taking the time out to visit them. The local beaches were a bit busier than we had experienced in other parts of the Mani - it was peak Greek holiday season and I imagine at other times they would be very quiet. Lovely swimming. I would thoroughly recommend this place.
