This is a great little country getaway for a great price. 10 minute drive from downtown Port Angeles but not walking distance. Clean and cozy, but not fancy. Please read our reviews, look at the pictures, and read the description very carefully. This place isn't for everyone, but if you like funky, unique little cabins, you'll love it! $10 pet fee payable when you stay.
Please let us know if you have a pet! The cabin is clean and cozy, but not fancy, which is reflected in the price. We believe we are the least expensive accommodations in the area, but let us know if you find a better price somewhere else and we can work something out. This place is a great price, but please don't choose it for that reason only! We want to host guests who will enjoy it's funky charm. The cabin makes a great home base for exploring the gorgeous North Olympic Peninsula. Please read everything so you know exactly what to expect!
INCLUDED: Tea, coffee, microwave popcorn, all linens, towels and toiletries. Basic cooking equipment, dishes and silverware.
COOKING: There is a tiny food prep area in the entry with large sink, small fridge (no freezer), electric skillet, toaster oven, single burner, microwave, electric tea kettle, and coffee pot.
HEATING: There are space heaters and fans in every room, and a woodstove, but NO central heat or cooling. A generous bundle of wood is included for each night of your stay.
BATHROOM: There is a full bathroom with all the toiletries you might need. Blow dryer, makeup mirror, extra toothbrushes in case you forgot yours. Water from the tap is great to drink. The hot water heater is small, and good for only two quick showers at a time, so you'll need to be strategic with your showers.
ENTERTAINMENT: NO WiFi, but you can sit on our deck to use ours. We offer satellite TV with DVR and 250 channels. Lots of movies recorded on the DVR.
BEDS: The main room has a double futon bed with a 4-inch memory foam mattress topper, there is a tiny little side bedroom with a twin bed, and a tiny little back bedroom with twin bunk beds.
Guests have access to the cottage 24 hours a day, and can come and go as they please without worrying about disturbing anyone. The cabin sits on a five acre piece with two other houses, so you may occasionally see someone across the yard, but you'll have plenty of privacy. Unfortunately you'll have a view of my husband's workshop and storage lean-to, but you'll also have a view of the Olympic Mountains and our beautiful, parked out yard.
Interaction with guests
For the price of a sketchy motel room or a room in someone's home you can have your own place with a beautiful yard. We are gone a lot so you may have the place to yourselves, but I am available by text anytime. We love to meet people, but we also like to give our guests their space.
Other things to note
PLEASE NOTE THE LOCATION! We are a 10-15 minute drive to town, 5 minutes to a grocery store. If you like funky little beach cabins and converted barns, this is the place for you. If you like Egyptian cotton sheets and tastefully decorated spaces, this is NOT the place for you.
The hot water heater is small, so more than one shower either has to be quick, or not taken all at once. It does heat up again quickly.
Also, heating is by space heaters (one in every room) and a wood stove, but there is NO central heat or cooling.
WiFi is NOT available in the cottage.
I would rather under-rate this place and have it be a pleasant surprise rather than present it as better than it is and have people be disappointed, so I am going to be brutally honest. This is a cute little fixer-upper with a lot of potential. The linoleum is peeling in a couple places, the curtains are the cheap slide-on kind, and the breakers trip occasionally if you have too many things plugged in. Someday I'll fix it up and charge more, but until then take advantage of the price, which around here will otherwise get you a sketchy budget motel or a room in someone else's house.
Please do not smoke inside! Let us know approximately what time you will arrive. If it looks like you might be arriving earlier than arranged please let us know or it might not be ready for you.
From Mar 1 - May 31, 2018 the minimum stay is 3 nights.
This cover photo is a picture of me with the Mayor of Chattanooga, when I traveled to that city to carry 20 banners of condolences and personal messages signed by the people of Port Angeles when the terrible shooting happened at the military reserve training center. It was a profound, life-changing experience for me. We just built a house on a beautiful five acre parcel that includes a funky little cottage where friends and family can stay when they come to visit. We decided to start renting it out so that other people could enjoy it too. We like to travel ourselves, so we can't always be here to greet our guests, but we like to make them feel at home any way that we can. The accommodations we offer are not luxury, but we really enjoy giving people an affordable place to stay if they're not fussy about luxury or fancy interior design. Our little cottage has a very good vibe, and it is a nice place to stay. We love meeting the people who stay with us, and it has been great to meet people from all over the world.
