The place is central to all the attractions in Eastern Kyoto ie. Yakasa Shrine. Very near to bus stations and a subway line as well. Place can easily fit four adults. Highly recommended.

This house is absolutely amazing. You will get the perfect authentic Japanese experience staying here. Also very close to the station, gion, and shrines. house was very clean. 6 of us fit comfortably. The staff at the guesthouse were extremely friendly during breakfast and we felt welcomed each time we went. Thank you for this amazing experience. would recommend to everyone!

Ichiro's house is perfect for family. We had a wonderful stay in here. The house itself is amazing. Authentic Japanese style with all modern equipments. You can find anything you need. Located in a quite residential area, walkable to many famous tourist sites. Ichiro is super nice host, very responsive and helpful! Recommend to all.

I can't describe what a good stay we had here. The lodging was a traditional machiya in very good condition. It has every amenity that a traveler wants. Washing machine, microwave oven, kitchen stuff, etc. The A/C saved us from the humid weather. Every morning we looked forward to the sumptuous breakfast. Only the miso soup and the flavored rice were traditionally Japanese, but the soup was so good that we all had multiple servings every morning. The assortment of fruit was excellent and makes up for the lack of veggie and fruit in our Japan diet. We will remember fondly the Friday night party and the sentou (public bathhouse run by Ichirou-san, the owner of Gajyun). The front desk staff was extremely helpful in planning our daily itinerary. Thank you Kaori-san and Yukiko-san! Advice for guests: make sure that you make your reservation in the morning for use of the sentou at 9PM. Ichirou-san will shuttle you to the bathhouse. Without his brand new car to shuttle you there, you will be bathing at the hostel or at the machiya.] Another advice: The machiya is a two storied wooden house with very steep and narrow staircase to go upstairs. We basically leave our suitcases on the 1st floor and crawl upstairs to sleep. Once upstairs, the bedrooms are very spacious and clean. I don't recommend this lodging for those who are mobility challenged. The location can be better, but with good legs, it is not a problem. I would definitely come back to stay here again. [Gajyun is primarily a hostel available for 3000 yen per night. Given that it comes with a nice breakfast, it is a very good deal.]
