Fully converted Tuscan farmhouse with pool, set in three acres of olive trees in the Chianti Hills just outside Florence. The beautiful house has been in our family for nearly 40 years and is brilliantly positioned for visiting the city, or escaping.

The space

Easy public transport for Florence makes this an ideal base for families with teenagers or friends who want some independence and don't need a car. Perfect for visiting all historic Tuscan towns including Florence, Siena, Arezzo and San Gimignano. The nearest town, Impruneta (4km), is famous for its terracotta factories and showrooms and the 'Festa dell'uva', a grape festival held on the last Sunday in September.

Other things to note

One well-behaved dog is allowed by arrangement. Cost is 10 euros per night.

We have enjoyed our week in San Isidoro. What a great scenery! And what a nice characteristic house! It's situated in the country but just a 15 minutes drive from Florence. We visited a lot of nice places (towns, city’s). We went to Pisa, Lucca, Siena, San Gimignano and of course; Florence. It was to early in the season to use the pool, a pity. The communication with Nicolette was very pleasant and helpful.

We all absolutely loved staying at Nicolette's home. It is a beautiful, cool, tile floored old house with generous rooms and plenty of space for everyone in the most wonderful location. It has a lovely pool, and a table tennis room. This doesnt feel remotely like a 'holiday villa' but is a lovely family home, which you return to as an old friend after every excursion. We loved the bookshelves (old 1970s children annuals, and lots of old orange Penguins). Just off a tiny lane, it is both hidden away in the hills, but only 20 mins or so to central Florence (conveniently there's a great bus which goes straight into Florence 2 mins walk away, 25 mins to the airport and within an easy drive of Siena, Pisa and of course the wonderful Chianti villages and towns. The local town, Impruneta, is only 4km away and has everything you could reasonably want (including great antipasti). We really did have the most fantastic 10 days here, with friends joining us along the way, all of whom also fell in love with it. Nicolette was incredibly helpful - she arranged for breakfast to be left for us, as we arrived late at night, and was incredibly helpful about trying to help find a taxi to take someone to Pisa. I have every hope that we will return ... many times.

The villa was perfect for us (mum, dad, 2, 4 and 11yr olds, plus 18yr old plus 20yr old with boyfriend, and Nan) and Nicolette could not have been more helpful or responsive to the few questions (not complaints!) we had about one or two minor matters - one where we managed to break a key, and that was fixed the same day. This was our first holiday in Tuscany and we are all resolved to go back, and soon. The proximity to Florence was better then expected because we were able to drive in and park sensibly centrally in 20m, then walk to Ponte Vecchio, Uffizi, duomo etc. South to Siena is about 50 minutes from out of the house to car park in Siena. Chianti country is 20-25 mins south, a bit more for outlying vineyards. We were there two weeks and once we had our bearings and were used to the roads these trips were fun and easy. The pool for the end of the day became our norm. I personally found the heat (a glorious 34-37 C) tough in the first week but got a hat and was used to it by the second, but that is just me.
