Beautiful cottage in the heart of the gold fields. Come for a relaxing weekend by the fire, enjoying the surrounding nature and wildlife. Cook up a storm in the fully equipped kitchen and stroll in the prized garden. Pets more than welcome!

The space

Located only 5 minutes from Maldon township in a beautiful rural setting, “Bendigo” Bowes Cottage is the original house built by the Bowe family in 1850. The Bowe family were originally from Cumberland in England and made their living as stone masons, they came out to the gold fields and made a handsome living not digging for gold but building solid stone houses, churches and cottages for those who could afford it. All the stone for “ Bendigo” was quarried on the property as well as for the other two houses on the adjoining properties which we believe were built for the expanding family members use. The outbuildings which still exist behind ‘Bendigo‘ became a gold assay office and stables. These outbuilding are being refurbished as living areas.

It is important to say that this cottage is our home and we would like share the pleasure it gives us with our guests however because the cottage is very old and it has antique furniture and soft furnishings such as lace curtains, it is imperative that children are supervised and restricted from jumping on couches or beds and don't play with the displayed ornaments and pictures on the shelves.
Unfortunately other than the understandable breakages of kitchen glassware and the like - all other breakages of furniture, fittings and decorations will need to be paid for.

You must also acknowledge
Some spaces are shared - Our guests share the space with native animals and plants and to protect this environment we must insist that ALL gates are kept closed..

Great house and a really good experience in such a historic house. Great to imagine what life would have been like back in the day. Better suited to families than friends groups due to the layout, it's quite small. Extremely clean.

Alan was there to meet us upon check in, who was extremely informative . It's a beautiful old stone cottage just a few km out of town on a very quiet street. The perfect place to get away from it all . Enjoy the serenity and the cosy warm fire with a good book. Thanks for sharing your home with us
