End your daily adventures in this cozy studio located in the middle of downtown Seward. We are steps away from shops, restaurants, and best of all, Resurrection Bay. For less than the cost of a hotel room, you can have your own private apartment!

The space

This cheerful studio is located in the back southern corner of the building. It offers views of Mt. Marathon as well as glimpses of Resurrection Bay, and the southern exposure ensures plenty of daylight. This sunny space features high ceilings and a clawfoot tub.

With your booking, you will receive a daily $5 voucher per adult, which can be applied to a meal, snack, smoothie, coffee or other menu item at The Sea Bean café, which occupies the lower level of our building. (please note that the cafe will be closed from Nov. 24 through March 31, 2017, so no vouchers will be provided if you stay with us during that timeframe.)

Built in 1907 by William Sauers, the Sauerdough Lodging building has served many purposes over the years. It originally housed the Seward Commercial Co. general store, with a town meeting hall upstairs. During the Roaring ’20s, the building was used as a brothel. It is presently the home of The Sea Bean café downstairs and rental apartments upstairs.

The five apartments are beautifully restored, with original hardwood floors, clawfoot tubs, original built-in cabinetry, high ceilings and vintage kitchens with modern appliances. In a town that was hit hard by the 1964 earthquake, few original buildings have stood the test of time, and fewer still feature such comfortable accommodations. We offer our guests the unique opportunity to experience Seward’s history without sacrificing any of the conveniences you expect while traveling.

Entire apartment, and cafe downstairs.

We email access codes 2 weeks prior to checkin. We try to say hi to all guests during their stay, and are always just a text or call away. Help is also available at the cafe downstairs during business hours.

We are located on the main block of downtown Seward, on Fourth Ave, between Adams and Washington. Shops, restaurants, bars, the library, community museum, waterfront, kayak rentals, and the Alaska SeaLife Center are all at your fingertips (or feet).

The best part about Seward is how foot and bike friendly it is- you can walk or bike everywhere! The waterfront bike path is beautiful, and takes you to the harbor. If you don't feel like walking/biking, the city operates a free shuttle during the summer that stops at various points around Seward, including downtown and the harbor.

Our apartments are located on the second floor, which is only accessed by stairs (see photo in our photo section). We apologize, but we do not have an elevator. We'd be glad to help you up the stairs with your luggage, if you give us a call or text first!

Meredith's place is a wonderful home away from home. It's the perfect spot in Seward right smack dab above a great coffee spot and all the local restaurants in Seward. We were so happy to have found it and used it as our headquarters while exploring the Kenai peninsula.

The accomodation is in a great position although there are a lot of rooms which makes it quite noisy. Not the best value for money we have had on our trip.

Wonderful stay here in the studio. The place was clean, cozy, charming, and conveniently located in the heart of town. We also adore the coffee shop downstairs. We will certainly seek this place out again if we are fortunate enough to return to the beautiful town of Seward.

This place is super sweet. The decorations are charming. The little kitchen had a gorgeous sink I'm very jealous of. The beds were super soft and blankets fluffy. We had already been traveling for a week and a half across Alaska. We arrived early and the coffee shop held our bags so we could take advantage of our day and go visit Exit glacier. I asked the hosts if they knew where we could do laundry, dice we had weeks left to go. They graciously opened up their own laundry room for us, which really made the rest of our trip. Thank you!

I love the idea of globe-trotting and love living vicariously through our guests that pass through our lodge on their way to their next adventure. My husband and I run The Sea Bean, a coffee shop right below our apartments, in addition to Sauerdough Lodging, and we have two little girls that keep us busier than both businesses combined.
