Two story custom built family cottage (100m2) with spectacular views, large patio with whirlpool, small yards and big natural garden with small streams in a safe and quiet gated cottage area in a beautiful valley in Hvalfjordur. Only 30 min drive from Reykjavik city limit and close to a number of tourist attractions like the Golden Circle.
Cozy and comfortable; a perfect getaway for couples, adventure spot for families and groups of friends. Amazing Northern Lights frequent when dark at night.

The space

The cottage is fully equipped and has wooden panels both on the outside and inside, and laminate floors (tiles in bathroom).
A large patio is all around the house with e.g. a whirlpool (hot tub), patio set, and a large gas grill (barbecue).

GROUND FLOOR
Ground floor has 1) an entrance with closets for overcoats, cleaning supplies etc.; 2) an open dining and living area with a patio door, dining table, sofa/sofa table, buffets, and a fully equipped open kitchen; 3) large family room with a flat screen TV, a DVD player and multi-media hard drive, leather corner sofa/sofa table, toy box, and a desk/office chair with a computer available to guests; 4) kids bedroom with a bunk bed, bedside table, closet, bins with toys, and a container full of LEGOs; 5) bathroom with a large shower and laundry area (washer and dryer); and 6) bedroom with a large bunk-bed (lower bunk 120cm, upper bunk 90cm) and a chest of drawers.

SECOND FLOOR
The second floor has a large (master)bedroom with a sloping ceiling, a California King size bed, bedside tables, chest of drawers, and a balcony with a small patio set.

GENERAL
Seven comfy pillows and comforters with sheets, and a few blankets are in the house. Beds have protective sheets. Large and small towels.

For infants/toddlers: Two Tripp trapp chairs (no straps), IKEA high chair, two playpens (travel cribs/beds) with infant sized pillow/comforter/sheets and soft blankets, infant swing, kids tableware, bibs, stroller (front with a seat for infant/toddler, back for standing toddler/young child), stepping stool, potty, toilet insert, infant bath tub and hooded towel.

Fire extinguishers (up- and downstairs), fire escape ladder for balcony, first-aid kit, fire blanket, vacuum cleaner, small hairdryer, iron/small iron board and much more is available to guests.

Natural/organic hand soaps, shampoo, conditioner, shower soap, washing liquid, dishwasher detergent and cleaning supplies are available for guests.

The kitchen has good storage space, and e.g. a microwave, oven with a ceramic stove, dishwasher, refrigerator/freezer, blender, toaster, coffee maker, boiler, digital scale, bowls, pots and pans, kitchenware for around 8-10, a shelve with spices and a few other things for cooking that guests are welcome to use as well as a drawer with foils, bags etc.

We have board games, playing cards, books, etc. in the cabinets that the guests are welcome to use.

The only closet "off limit" is the one in the TV room where we store our private things, and the one above the microwave in the kitchen. The storage area under the house is also off limit.

Guest access

The last 7 km, after you turn into Miðdalur, is a gravel road so please drive carefully.

The cottage has a private parking area with gravel for 2-3 cars, different sized yards; one for playing/dining surrounded by a hedge with a small bridged stream running through it, one with two swings, and one with a fireplace and steps down into the natural garden that is fenced and has four small streams merging into one. Perfect for kids to play in and around.

In August both blueberries and crowberries grow wild and by the kitchen garden rughbarb also grows wild.

A kids playground, and a football/soccer field is around a 5-10 min walk from the cottage, inside the gated area.

A trash can is on the patio, and containers just outside the mobile gate.

This is a family owned cottage that we designed and built ourselves with the help of carpenters in 2008-2009. We expect guests to take good care of it. No more than six guests are allowed.

The cottage will be cleaned by us but you should leave the house in the order it was when you checked in, tableware washed, trash in the containers that are located just outside the mobile gate, and the hot tub securely strapped.

Please do not wash the linens (sheet sets) unless there is an accident. If you want to change them please use the spare ones in the cabinets/drawers and inform us so we can plan accordingly. We are very particular about how, with what and on which program and temperature they are washed :-)

During the winter you should NOT turn the heaters all the way down when you check out. If temp goes below 0C (32F) the water in the pipes could freeze and the pipes explode.

More details in the House Manual that you get access to when we have accepted your reservation.

One of a kind cottage set in a one of a kind setting. Away from tourists yet surrounded by incredible nature sights around every turn. Oddny was a fantastic host and promptly answered our (many) questions in a timely and informative way. Words do not do this cottage or host justice; simply incredible!

This place was charming, about 30 min from Reykjavik. We were able to see the Northern Lights, right off the deck.

This was a dream come true. The cottage was beautiful, clean and private and the landscape was majestic. This cottage was the perfect escape and hideaway for us. Our visit was so cozy and we really felt like we were living in our dream home. The hot tub was so nice to come home to after our days out exploring. We even got to catch the Northern Lights one night while sitting in the hot tub! Oddny and Palmi are fantastic hosts. Excellent communication and hospitality. It was also so wonderful to meet Palmi when we visited his shop in town. We picked up an armful of his gorgeous pieces like the ones we had admired at the cottage to remember our stay. We are so glad that we found this place to spend our honeymoon. Thank you both so much for sharing this sanctuary with us, the gift you left us and for making this trip so perfect. We hope to visit again sometime!

What a wonderful little house! We enjoyed our stay and our three year old didn't want leave. Very family friendly and beautifully located. We got to see some northern lights, enjoyed the hot tub, and it was easy to cook in the well equipped kitchen.

Very cute remote cottage with incredible views, but actually not too far a drive from the city. Only note is to make sure you stock up on groceries and have an appropriate vehicle, as the approach roads are slow gravel roads, and there are no local amenities, so popping out to shops or restaurants is not an option. We spent a few nights relaxing here on our honeymoon and were lucky enough to see the Northern Lights. Oddny and Palmi were also extremely helpful hosts, with very detailed notes and great communication. For a quiet getaway this is highly recommended!

Enjoy spending time with my family and friends, especially in our wonderful cottage that Palmi designed and built in 2008 with the help of carpenters.

A couple of years ago, a few months after our youngest son was born, we decided to share our cottage with people from all over the world to help cover the cost of running two homes. A true "win-win" situation, especially since it has worked really well so far :-)
