Our rustic and eclectic cabin is surrounded by redwoods, walking distance from the river, and is a great place to unwind. It's a great place for kids and adults alike. Families will appreciate the swing set, the tree fort, children's books, beach toys, and built in baby gate. Adults will like the places to relax and look up at the trees, the proximity to wine country and the city, and the fun of making fires to warm them up. Everyone loves the river and the short drive to the ocean.

The space

The Blue House is cozy but functional with about 600 sq ft of space, newer kitchen appliances, and an open layout. There is one bedroom (with a queen bed). In the main room, there is a loft with a full size bed. There is also a pull-out trundle day-bed (i.e. 2 more twin beds).

Mostly what we love is it's location - convenience in closeness (a little more than an hour from SF), embedded in our favorite area of wine country (Russian River and Dry Creek), swimming, tubing, boating in the river, being surrounded by redwood trees and their ability to make you feel small, and proximity to the wild California Coast. It's such a great base for exploring. But the house is a place where you can slow down. There is fast internet if you want it, a tv and stereo, but it's also great for just building fires in the fire pit and hanging out in the hammock.

The house isn't totally secluded, but it's all fenced in and feels a little like your own world. The house that it backs up to very rarely has people in it (I think we saw them two weekends last summer). Not many people drive down the street. It's around the corner from any other houses on the street so you get a nice view of the hills from the kitchen and dining room areas.

Other things to note

The blue cabin is lovely. I was able to pair my phone to the 360 speaker system and enjoy my tunes in surround sound. The location is close to nice wineries but is secluded enough for privacy. My points of hardship were: the shower is part of a claw foot tub, which for me was not comfortable to shower in; and there are several check out tasks that are required which took longer than planned to complete and made out check out late. Overall, this was a good stay.

Cute, secluded, great yard, and beautiful location! Be aware that there's not a ton of privacy in the space (a curtain separates the bedroom, and the loft bed is exposed), but as long as that suits your needs it's an amazing spot. Thanks Oliver!

we spent four nights here over the 4th of july with a 7 month old and a 2-year-old and had a wonderful stay. the house isn't big and it's a little rustic (read: you will see spiders), but it's very charming, the space works well and the backyard with swing set and fire pit is a child's dream. the neighborhood is quiet but close to the beach (15 minute walk if you go the way where you don't have to play frogger across the road) and feels like you're in the forest. the house was very clean, the linens and towels were nice and beds were comfy. appliances were top notch -- dishwasher, fridge, stove, grill, washer and dryer -- and we had everything we needed to host a backyard bbq, seated around the awesome picnic table in the yard. it did get pretty toasty some of the nights we were there -- particularly in the loft -- but I hung towels over the window to block the sun out during the day and brought up the little fan and that helped. (some blackout curtains could be useful up there.) all in all, the blue house is an incredibly welcoming place for families and a wonderful respite from the city. oliver even suggested we use the wagon in the garage to tow the kids to the beach and that was a huge hit! we hope to be back soon.

This is such a fabulous spot! We just adored all the charming details that made it such a cool spot. We particularly enjoyed the outside space just nestled in the redwoods. We look forward to returning, our two daughters (5 and 9) loved it. We really appreciated the river toys and wagon, having a washer & dryer, activity and food suggestions, all the details. Just can't say enough about the experience all around. Five plus stars!

The Blue House is lovely, both inside and out! My mum and I stayed there while exploring the area and many of the great nearby towns (like Sebastopol and Healdsburg), and the house proved a restful retreat for us. The redwoods outside are magnificent and there are so many thoughtful inclusions on the property, from the washer/dryer to the treehouse outside. While no children were with us, we both appreciated that the house is simply a magical place for families of all ages.
