Kim & Machiko have a wonderful home! We stayed in the cottage next to the main house which was absolutely wonderful. The bath has a very relaxing view of the forest, and the house, the kitchen and the bedroom have everything you need to 'camp out' and relax in the countryside. And when you want to get busy exploring Kim is a fountain of information and gives you the right idea for the right moment, even drops you of where you need to go. We also received great dinner tips and Kim made the reservations. All in all, shortly put: if you have a chance to visit, this is a wonderful base to explore the Alps!

Kim & Machiko's place is great, and they are nice hosts! Both English & Japanese communications are available. The neighborhood is pretty quiet in kinda weekend villas area, and you will see some wild monkeys, deers etc. I stayed their yellow cabin by myself. I believe it was a great deal considering their friendly and flexible hosting. It would be more convenient if you visits there by driving. However they gave me a ride kindly every time I asked for seeing, eating and shopping. No problem. I will come back for autumn leaves next time!

So we were just looking for a nice scenic (and hopefully cooler) place to spend a few days spending time in nature. Momiji Lodges by far exceeded our expectations! We stayed in the lovely yellow house with comfortable futon mattresses with a lovely forest backyard view and enjoyed time in the private onsen. We also saw monkeys and even a little fox trotted by one afternoon! In addition, Omachi isn't the easiest to get around in without a car, so Kim shuttled us to and from the train station and then was kind enough to spend his day driving us around to scenic spots we wouldn't have known about, much less been able to get to! We will be back for sure -- most likely to enjoy momiji season in the autumn! :D

Kim and Machiko's place was clean, quiet, and lovely. The summer birdsong in the morning put me in the right mood for exploring, and Machiko's hearty but healthy breakfast was energizing. Of course, having a troop of monkeys playing in the yard during breakfast didn't hurt, either. Kim and Machiko were full of tips and suggestions for things to do around Omachi and the Northern Alps area, and I enjoyed everything I was able to do in a short time. They're outstanding hosts, very hospitable, and you can really see the care and craft they've put into building, maintaining, and improving their place. I'll be returning there on my next visit to Nagano.

We stayed in the self-contained cottage and it was one of the most family-friendly accommodations we've been in. Kim and Machiko had prepared everything we needed as we were travelling with a one year old, from crib to baby change mat and even baby snacks! The private onsen was such a lovely bonus especially after a long day out hiking. Close proximity to the breathtaking Takase Dam and just over an hour away from Kamikochi national park - definitely one of the highlights of our trip! Kim and Machiko were always ready to assist with trip planning or show us the local sights and food. We would definitely love to be back one day!

We are Kim and Machiko - Australian / Japanese, husband / wife, owner operators of Momiji Lodges, Nagano Alps, Japan. In our search for paradise we have traveled 16 countries and found Japan to be the best of them all, and we then further refined our search with 7 tours of Japan driving nearly 20,000 km all over the country, finally selecting this location of Omachi, Nagano, Japan as the best place we've ever found - quite frankly we think it's the best place in the World - the epic 3000 metre mountain landscape offering spectacular sightseeing, hiking/trekking, snowsports, hotsprings, purest clean air and water, and sensational Japanese cuisine. And mild comfortable climate year round. (And, unsurprisingly with all of that, the highest life expectancy in the World.)

Please let us show you around this magnificent region.
