Sono's place was our favorite accommodation in Japan, by far. As soon as you get in the door, you can smell the wood of the house. The view of the mountain from the house is breathtaking. We enjoyed having an afternoon tea outside and take in the view. The house is relatively large and is fully equipped for cooking. It is a beautiful place to stay in to be in nature and relax.
In addition to the house, we thoroughly enjoyed the area in which it is located. The region is beautiful with mountains and forests everywhere. We visited a waterfall nearby and drove around to see rice paddies. There is an amazing ramen restaurant close by. We went there for lunch twice because the miso ramen was some of the best we had in Japan. For dinner, we stopped at local stores to buy local fish and fresh produce. The whole experience was simply delightful! If you like scenic views and seeing rural Japan, this is the place for you! If you do not speak any Japanese, be mindful that people in the area do not speak much English. Additionally, you will need a car to access the area.
The only negative thing about our trip to Sono's place is that we had to cut our trip short due to a typhoon. Sono, however, was wonderful about communicating with us. She understood that we had to leave a night early to make sure we would not be caught in the typhoon and quickly reimbursed us for that night. This was really helpful and much appreciated.
We cannot recommend this place enough: not only will you spend a wonderful time in this beautiful house, but you also know that the host will be there for you if you have any needs!
