Extra spacious
Guests love this home’s spaciousness for a comfortable stay.
Take a break in this beautifully converted Bedford Bus with stunning views up the Lyell range and Matiri valley. Sits on the edge of the Kawatiri/Buller river right on the edge of town.
Look down across the river from the comfort of your bed and go to sleep to the sounds of the water flowing just metres away.
Relax beneath the stars in beanbags by the outside fire pit or prop up the bar. Plenty of entertainment for a chilled getaway.
The space
Sits on the edge of town across the road from a beautiful church, nestled between a couple of paddocks, an orchard and the Buller river.
Epic views throughout the and bus garden, as you are right next to the river. Some amazing sunsets over the Lyell range. Outside bar area with fire pit and beanbags to relax and enjoy the view.
The main bus has seating at an inside table for 2 and 2 fold out couches in the main lower area. The queen bed is on the upper mezzanine level.
There are a couple of hazards for children, the blinds have cords, the stairs might be dangerous for little ones and we are by the river. Children are welcome, we just want you to know the risks before booking.
Outdoor kitchen setup with BBQ, gas 2 burner, bar fridge and bar (all outside). Kettle and toaster inside.
Private ablution block with shower and composting toilet connected by covered area. The shower is really fantastic at night time.
If you would like to be set up with office space for working from the bus, we can put a comfy office chair and spare monitor in the bus for you. Please let us know in advance.
There is charge for extra beds. Please see other notes.
Guest access
The area with the bus in is surrounded by a rustic fence and bamboo one on the side with the road for extra privacy. You have your own shower and composting toilet in ablution block connected to bus by covered area. Cooking facilities are designed for outside, gas 2 burner and BBQ.
Access from front paddock between road and bus paddock. Welcome to park here.
Other things to note
The toilet is composting.
The main kitchen/cooking set up is for outside with a bar fridge.
We live with our children in the house to the back of the bus, but will give you privacy and you have your own area.
If you would like a comfy office chair or down at the bus and a spare screen if you are working from home please let us know in advance so that we can bring it on for you. The office chair is pretty big, so we don't leave it in the space all the time.
If you would like to sleep separately, additional beds are available upon request at a $30 per night upcharge. This is calculated in the airbnb booking system by adding an extra guest (3rd or 4th person). The couch beds are only available when a 3rd guest is booked. For both couch beds to be set up please book for 4 people. Hopefully this makes sense! Feel free to message. Thank you.

Where you’ll be
Murchison, Tasman, New Zealand
Riverside location, surrounded by open fields and established trees. Little church across the street. Two minute walk from the main shops, cafes and pub.
Some local activities include white water rafting, kayaking, jet boating, natural flames tour, Buller Gorge Swing Bridge and bush walks. There are a few Bush walks that are walkable from town including Matakitaki Bridge Scenic Reserve - Skyline Track, Kahikatea and Mataki Willow Grove Walk. Another couple of great walks that are a short car ride include six mile and Johnson creek.
Ultimate Descents white water rafting is about 15 minutes walk or 2 minutes in the car, and is based out of the Riverside campground. There are different sections that can be rafted depending on how much action you would prefer, the water levels on the day and the age of the crew you go with. It's fantastic fun and we would highly recommend this if you have time.
We are a half hour drive to the Old Ghost road. Local shuttle service including bike hire if needed on the same street. This needs to be organised in advance to ensure spaces. If you start from the Lyell side, it's around 30 minutes drive. It's absolutely fantastic and I would definitely recommend. Be sure to book huts in advance if you want to go all the way to Sedonville, as they book up quick. It's worth going for a day return from Lyell. Insane views from the top on a good day.
If you like your biking my favourite ride from home is actually just on a gravel road to the side of the Matakiktaki River, up the West Bank. You can do a loop by going across the swingbridge over the Matakitaki, then back down Fairfax Street. It takes a few hours, it's a great workout and has some gorgeous views.
The swing bridge is a great day out with kids. Here you will find gold panning, a flying fox across the river, a lovely loop walk and a stunning beach. Ten minutes drive.
