Large bedroom with private bath overlooking back garden in a classic 1906 home in N. Berkeley. Separate entrance, comfortable (new) queen bed, mini-fridge, microwave, tea/coffee, bathrobes plus little extras for your comfort. Short walk to BART trains, buses and UC. About 6 stairs up to porch entry. As of Sept. 2017 the city of Berkeley has implemented an occupancy tax which is effectively 14% and is why the price of the room is higher now.

The space

This is a great location on the edge of downtown, in north Berkeley. The bedroom and bath are at the back of the house with its own separate entrance from rest of the house. Amazing coffee shops and restaurants are literally a block or two away.

It is a short walk to wonderful restaurants and shops, UC Berkeley campus, excellent theater and easy access to public transportation to anywhere in the San Francisco Bay area.

Guest access

This is classic 1906 Berkeley brown-shingle home recently fully earthquake retrofitted. The guest room access is in the back of the house with its own separate entrance.

The bed is a top rated, memory foam, deluxe queen sized mattress with Egyptian cotton sheets, down comforter and woven bamboo coverlet. The en-suite bath is stocked with extra touches like fresh flowers from the yard, scented bath-salts, hand cream, shampoo and robes. We like to make your stay as comfortable as possible so please let us know how we can help.

The room comes supplied with a picnic basket of cutlery, cups and plates, coffee press, hot water kettle, microwave and mini-fridge. And you are welcome to enjoy the garden, pick fresh Meyer lemons or herbs and graze on the raspberries, blackberries, grapes, figs or apples when they are in season, or lounge in the hammock swings.

Interaction with guests

We are self-employed and home on and off throughout the day with our own work. We are happy to help you navigate your stay if you wish -- just let us know --but we respect your privacy.

Other things to note

Generally the internet and mobile phone reception is good but there is no television in the room. (Lots of books.)
The back door entrance to the room is up a set of 7 steps on a small back porch.
Eco-Friendly: We have an active organic garden which has been in place for 30 years. We have guest taught classes at a local botanical college on cultivation and propagation of herbs and food plants. On the property are composting and vermiculture (worm bins for food scraps). If you are interested in learning more we'd be happy to show you around. As much as possible we are an eco-friendly household using non-toxic cleaning supplies, recycle plastics, bottles, cans and paper with our city program and recently purchased a new ultra low-water front-load washing machine now that we are hosting AirBnB. The next step is solar. Your stay with us helps us make the transition!

Pet: We have a pet blue-crown conure (small parrot) who lives in the room next to this one. He is not noisy at night but sometimes makes noise during the day. If he does disturb you we can relocate him to another part of the house at your request :-)

This is a great, peaceful lovely room very close to the Gourmet Ghetto and university campus. Perfect for a couple or on your own. Everything you need is provided and Bettina responds to communication very quickly.

Bettina was very welcoming but not at all intrusive. Although the room is part of the house, with its own separate entrance and bathroom, it is entirely private. The bed was extremely comfortable, there were comfortable chairs for relaxation and a desk with a garden view to work at. The local neighbourhood felt safe and was very leafy and quiet, and the garden was a delight to spend a hot afternoon in hanging chairs under an arbour. Her very friendly neighbor gave me a tour of his wine making setup and some fresh wine grapes and some dessert wine to sample. Bettina was a great communicator and responded very quickly before my arrival as well as while I was in residence when I needed something. The room was provided with all sorts of extras and everything I needed. If I am back in Berkeley I will aim to stay there again. Location wise, this accommodation couldn't be handier to the university and the gourmet ghetto.

A very clean and cosy room in a great location just a few minutes walk from lively Downtown Berkeley and the University campus. Also just a few minutes walk from the BART station. The bed was large and especially comfortable and there were lots of little extras provided such as biscuits and fresh fruit. Shower/bath facilities were also excellent including a range of shampoos, conditioners and extras.

Clean place for a short stay. Neighborhood was a bit loud (this may have been a rarity though — I think there was a house party going on that night).

Response from Bettina:
Sorry you found it loud. Most certainly there was not a party at the house during your stay. We live here. There was no party. Its possible a neighbor had a party but they always stop by 10pm or so. We've never known it to be loud past a reasonable hour.
