A spacious 3 bedroom home that is beautiful, comfortable, warm and welcoming. The the mountain vistas are spectacular and the courtyard a little green oasis from the city, which is only few minutes walk away. A garage provides secure parking.

The space

This is an old, Victorian house that was carefully doubled with a second story. The upstairs area has all wooden floors, a fireplace and magnificent mountain views. Here you'll find the main bedroom, the attached attached dressing room and en-suite bathroom. You can catch the winter sun on the roof garden.

The downstairs area encompasses a small, leafy courtyard, often dripping with flowers. A plunge pool provides relief on hot days.

The kitchen is set up for cooking and a dining table provides a place for combining cooking and conversation.

There are two downstairs bedrooms. One has a double bed (and a fireplace), the other a comfortable sleeper couch.

The living room is as a fine supply of books (for adults and children alike) and a fireplace to curl up next to to read them.

Guest access

Guests have access to the whole house except for one small storage room, which will be locked. This means that there are various spaces for living, dining and relaxing.

Interaction with guests

This is my father's house. He travels a lot, so I am managing it for him during the times he is away. My house is fifteen minutes away, so I can come by and assist should there be the need. Otherwise, I am more than happy to take calls to give advice on anything you need, but you'll have the space completely to yourselves. Over the Christmas period, we would like bookings of at least a week.

Other things to note

If you have young children you will need to take care with the staircase and the plunge pool, but you will also find many toys and books to keep them occupied.

Anna was a great host, and this home was perfect for our trip. Anna and her father were incredibly responsive, and we couldn't have asked for a better location. We were able to walk all throughout the city, and the home was conveniently located to restaurants and nightlife but also in a quiet neighborhood. This home helped make our trip great!

The house is quite spacious, with several comfortable public areas to relax as well as three good bedrooms. The kitchen is open and equipped with everything you need to make nice meals, if you want to eat in. There is a small, quiet deck upstairs and a small but very nice patio downstairs which are wonderful for early morning coffee or reading. The house is less than a 10 minute walk from the Bo-Kaap Museum and, in another direction, about 7 minutes to bustling Long Street. It is an easy walk to the Company Gardens with all its museums and attractions. There are many, many restaurants and shops very close by on Bree Street, Long Street and all around. If you are a walker, prepare for a short, steep climb to get home. The Table Mountain cable stop is a 12 minute drive (or Uber ride) away as is the V&A Waterfront. Anna and Dirk were responsive, pleasant and helpful. Our family had a great time and recommend this house for anyone who wants to explore Cape Town.

This was our first experience with Airbnb - and it certainly did not disappoint! From the moment of submitting a booking request to our stay coming to an end, my contact with Anna has been wonderful! She has been prompt in replying to email contact, overly helpful with tips about the local area and very accommodating with every last detail of our stay. Our group of travellers (6 adults in total) found our stay at 42 Jordaan Street to be just like a home away from home. It was was spacious with more than enough room for all of us, very clean and full of lovely and unique pieces, which made the space very comfortable to just relax in and watch the clouds lift over Table Mountain, which is a beautiful view from window of the top lounge area! Bo'Kaap was a great location to stay in. It was walking distance to the many eateries and bars on Bree St and Kloof St, a short drive or bus ride to Table Mountain and also easily accessible to the City Bowl or Waterfront. One of the positives about this suburb was that you felt like you were living amongst the locals and their brightly painted unique homes! I would definitely come back to stay at 42 Jordaan St, infact - I didn't want to leave!

Response from Anna:
What a lovely review. I hope you know you would be most welcome to come and stay again. I'm very fussy about the guests that stay at my dad's place (because it is so much a home) and you were as good as it gets!

An absolutely beautiful home in the heart of the city. It was much bigger than we had imagined, and so much more amazing than the photos show. A two minute walk to long street, so convenient. The splash pool is fantastic and the views, remarkable. We had an incredible time there, Anna is a wonderful host, very helpful and relaxed. The house is very economically priced for the area, amenities and size.

I’ve done a turn or two around the world, but for a while now have been letting the dust settle on me a little in Cape Town. I’ve spent the last year renovating my house, building it around not-so-obvious gems I have found in markets and antique shops and given a bit of a shine. My home is made to be properly lived in and loved, and ideally any guests staying here would appreciate that.

I get my kicks from kiting and my highs from climbing. My nine-to-five is spent doing the research for my PhD in medical anthropology, on a topic I find dismal, but fascinating. I mellow out by getting dirt under my fingernails making things grow.

I will likely be round the corner in the city if you rent my house and would be happy to give the guidance and advice about getting the most of Cape Town if you require it.
