Our casita is a detached bedroom and bathroom with plentiful street parking and bikes for your use. We are continuously upgrading it for your comfort. Just added in March 2018: a new Casper mattress; upgraded bikes.

Constructed in 2016, it's a cozy, modern space close to downtown, in central east Austin. Most eastside attractions are within a mile or two, and all of downtown is within three miles. It's close enough to get places quickly, but far enough removed to be quieter and traffic free.

The space
We love this space, and we hope you do too. It's new (constructed in 2016) and has plenty of natural light.

The casita has it's own covered patio, facing a park and walking/biking trails and providing just a hint of a view of downtown. There's a speaker that you can plug your phone into to play music or podcasts.

And we keep adding amenities! Recently added: An upgraded mattress, an electric kettle and a minifridge.

Did we mention there's a reachable PokeStop and Ingress portal?

We're across the street from a park, which we love because it gives life to the neighborhood rather than just being a home on another sleepy residential street.

We're a short distance from a handful of terrific neighborhoods and entertainment districts. East Twelfth Street and Manor Road are closest, both are less than a 10 minute bike ride (or a 5 minute drive) away. Mueller, UT, the state capitol, all of east central Austin and all of downtown are within two to three miles, which translates into about a 20-30 minute bike ride depending on your speed (or a 10-30 minute drive depending on traffic).

If you're looking for a place where you can be downtown or at UT or the capitol in a few steps, this is not the listing for you. If you're looking for a place that's quieter at night while still close enough to everything to keep you out of the worst traffic and congestion (which is especially bad in the north-south corridors in Central Austin), then you've found it!

There is a bus to downtown a block away, and bike lanes all the way into downtown too. My partner and I work downtown and commute by bus or bike every day. We're happy to give advice on the best routes if you want to take the two casita bikes for a spin.

Texas born and raised, my recent fascinations include bikes, patios, baking and craft beer. I'm a journalist, policy wonk and nerd by training. I do digital outreach work for a large nonprofit. I help run a Burning Man regional and a local tech meetup. And I travel whenever I get the chance. I've lived in Austin for more than fifteen years and first moved to East Austin more than 10 years ago. I'm happy to share local tips and suggestions!
