This was my second time staying in Mr. Luis's apartment. I also stayed there in May of this year. When I decided to return to Havana with my son, I was so glad to see Mr. Luis's place was available. While I like the idea of staying in a casa particular, I prefer a bit more privacy. Mr. Luis's apartment offers the perfect mix of independence, convenience, and assistance when needed. The cell phone that Mr. Luis provides is invaluable. We needed a lot of help during this trip, and it was very comforting to know that Mr. Luis was only a text away. He arranged our side trip to Vinales, airport transfers, and served as an intermediary when my son's suitcase failed to arrive in Havana until a day after he did. The apartment itself is well located in Vinales and has everything you could possibly need for your stay. Mr. Luis and his wife are kind, helpful, and warm. Book this place!

Luis was a great host! There was some confusion with getting to his home on the first day due to a delayed flight, but Luis was very understanding. He provided us with cell phone to make getting in contact with him throughout our stay easy. He was very responsive; he checked on us and offered suggestions on places we should go. The map/guide he provided us on the first day was also a huge plus! His place was in walking distance to Hotel Cohiba which is where would go to be picked up/dropped off for taxis to get around to different sites (it was just easier and felt safer than getting one to and from the house). I highly recommend staying with Luis while in Havana! He was amazing!

This is an amazing place! Not only is it cool and cozy with stunning views of Vedado and El Malecón (It's actually only a two-block walk from the Malecón!), Luis and Marcela were incredibly helpful during our stay and facilitated a smooth check-in and check-out. As an example, Luis arranged transportation for us to and from the airport and gave us valuable recommendations during the trip. One such suggestion was to visit Fabrica de Arte Cubano one evening - an incredible experience! We were thankfully able to communicate frequently with Luis throughout the trip via the cell phone Marcela gave us when we checked in. He responded to all texts practically immediately. As a final point, given that we were staying there for about six days, Luis scheduled a maid to clean and change the towels and sheets midweek. I would definitely stay at this place again when returning to Havana. Muchas gracias, Luis and Marcela!

The location is great and there are some awesome restaurants around the apartment. Luis let us leave our bags in the room when we arrived very early. The phone he provided during our stay was very helpful as well! He helped arrange taxis and tours and was all together a great host

Luis was a fantastic host. He arranged a taxi to pick us up from the airport and waited for us at the lodging while our flight was delayed over an hour. The apartment cleanliness was immaculate. Great location in walking distance to many sites and restaurants. Luis provided a cell phone to communicate with him and responded very quickly to any questions we had about the city. I highly recommend Luis and the apartment.

Like most first time travelers to Cuba, we scoured the various travel sites and reviews on Airbnb to find the perfect place to stay. This apartment stood out to us not only for the location and views, but honestly the rave reviews for it's host, Luis. His highly praised communication, itinerary assistance and provision of a local cell phone to guests would prove to be indispensable. The simple 7th floor apartment is small, but very clean with a cold air conditioning unit and hot water - all we needed for the 4 day/3night trip. (There is an elevator, if you want to avoid taking the stairs.) The bathroom is compact, reminding us very much of a cruise ship layout. Upon request, Luis did bring over a hair dryer as I had forgotten to pack one. The separate single beds were fine, though felt a bit like being back at camp since we're both around 6' tall. We didn't use the kitchenette area, but took advantage of the mini-fridge conveniently stocked with bottled water for purchase. A previous guest generously left a copy of the Lonely Planet Cuba travel guide to share with subsequent travelers (thank you!), located on the foyer table. Like most of the structures we saw in Havana, you need to use caution on the front building steps where some edges have chipped away (especially after enjoying a few evening mojitos). The location was fantastic for getting a feel of the local community, and everything we needed was within a short block or two walk - restaurants, bars, Malecon waterfront, local convenience store, the tourist bus/taxi stand, money exchange (in the Melia Cohiba Hotel), etc. We wandered the neighborhood late into the evening and never once felt unsafe - the only thing threatened was our sleeping-in due to a nearby crowing rooster who was an early riser. ( : But we wanted the local experience, so it was just another colorful layer to the landscape. The only challenge we found of staying in Vedado was that it's a bit of a distance from tourist sights of the Old Havana area. One could walk there in about an hour, but even as Floridians we found the sun & heat just too much after a mile and ended up hailing a taxi. Cab rides ran $10 each way, so we opted (at Luis' suggestion) to use the double decker tourist bus that stopped at multiple locations for only $10/day to stretch our budget. The nearest bus stop in front of the Rivera Hotel is a only a five minute walk from the apartment. (Be warned though that the bus shuts down early around 6 or 7, so be sure to take a trip through the city at night by other means to see some amazing views.) Luis arranged transport to/from the airport, set up tickets for excellent stage side seats at the Cabaret Parisien, shared his recommendations of what we should be sure to check out within our limited timeframe...
