Eight square meters room with queen size bed and you are welcome to use all the facility in the house.
Here you have the chance to live in a commune for few days and meeting up new people. This place is quiet but within city limits, with amazing view.
In the backyard we have 297 m. mountain which is perfect for outdoors activities. We also offer horse riding tours at the same place (URL HIDDEN) And from our doorsteps we often have spectacular view of the Northern Lights.

The space

The bedroom has one queen size bed and is suitable for two persons.
Akurholt is 106 m2 and located only 14 km away from the center of Reykjavik. It is situated in a beautiful hillside and has the atmosphere of a cozy farm. We have lived here for many years but recently moved to a close by neighborhood. The whole house can comfortable accommodate 8-10 persons and has one shared bathroom.

At the same place we operate horse rental so if you are interested in horse riding please check our website (URL HIDDEN)

Guest access

Ready made beds and towels are included.
Kitchen with dishwasher, mixer, microwave, blender and toaster. WC with shower. Laundry (washing machine) and dryer for 500 ISK.

Interaction with guests

Our stable and our horse rental is in the backyard and therefore guests can expect that some of us are at Akurholt and around mostly all day long.
But if guest are only staying for a night or over weekend, it might be they wan´t meet us as we do not live at the place. But they can always send us message.

Other things to note

There is a key box at the right side of the outdoor. You must put in the code number and press the over button to get the key. After you have used the key, put him immediately back and repeat the process.
If you put in wrong number there is a lower button you must press on and start the procedure again. I will send you the code number after you have confirmed your booking.
Room door for guests are always marked.

I hope you will enjoy to stay in our house. I think most of instruction about how to get to my place by bus or car are in the the description and/or in photo album. If there is anything you need information about do not hesitate to get in contact with us.

Unfortunately we do not have endless of hot water as we have electrical heating, but it has been enough for us last years and we are 5 in family, so there shouldn't be a problem. But instead of taking a bath full of hot water or a long, long shower, especially if there are more guests in the house I would recommend going to one of the 18 public swimming pools we have around in Reykjavik and nearby. We have two swimming pools within 6 km radius from our home. There you have a nice swimming pool with geothermal water, many hot tubes, sauna and water sliders and the best thing is that the entry fee for this spa is about 5-600 ISK and you could stay there the whole day if you prefer :)

And remember the Icelandic water is purely fresh so enjoy it straight from the water faucet :)

Akurholt is first and last place around our horses and horse rental but we offer four seperate ready made bedroom and shared bathroom, kitchen and living room. So this place is more like a hostel. But anyhow we are offering a cozy place where we hope you can feel like at home in this quiet, peaceful area.

Take a note that there is less privacy in a hostel than in a hotel and might not be comfortable for those requiring more privacy. Hostels encourage more social interaction between guests due to the shared communal areas.

Akurholt is located in the hills of Úlfarsfell and therefore it can be a lot of snow there during the winter time. We recommend people to have a car with good tires, while staying there especially over the winter time as the bus stops about 1100 meters away and the grocery store is located about 4 km away. Removing snow from a gravel path to our farm is not in a priority of city employees :)

This was our second time staying here, and we loved it just as much as the first time! Some changes were made in the house since last summer (i.e. laundry was moved out into open space from the bathroom, etc.) but the house cat Elsa was still there, which we were excited about! She was not in the house when we arrived, but as soon as we heard her bells I jumped out of bed and went out to say hi. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone interested in staying out of the main City (though it's only about 10 mins away) and who wants to mingle with other tourists (since there are four rooms in the house, you will definitely come in contact with the other residents).

We had a great time staying, and also riding. The house is located in a great spot between Reykjavik and Þingvellir and the super cute cat Elsa is such a bonus!

The room was very lovely, the living areas were homely and well decorated. Kitchen was well equipped. The cat was a nice presence in the house, she is very friendly however she will follow you around whenever you have food in your hand so if you're not comfortable with cats it may be a problem. Location was perfect for us, as it's close enough to the city (15mins drive from Reykjavik) but also far enough that you get the peace and quiet of nature. Overall, we had a great stay and would gladly recommend to anybody looking to explore the area.

The hosts were nice and the communication was great, making check-in easy and smooth. The house was cozy and clean. The cat Elsa is awesome and super friendly! It was a short drive to downtown Reykjavik, but we were lucky to have a place to stay at all on New Year's Eve :)

Hanna, Helgi And Jónína has such a nice house. It is exactly as described and shown in the picture. Our room as well as the dinning room has very big windows. So, it was really nice to see the snow storm outside while having our meal or reading a book sitting in our room. At night we watched some horror movies while it was heavily snowing outside and we loved it (only horror movie lovers will understand :)). Yes, we were quite stuck there. We went during winter and it was severe weather that time. 3 out of our 4 booked trip was cancelled due to bad weather so you will get an idea how bad weather it was. But still we loved our stay there only because of this nice house and its surrounding location. You can see the whole Reykjavik city from the window or from the door. At night the glowing lights from the city looks really beautiful. Hanna, Helgi And Jónína was very kind and communicative. There was a problem in the sink in bathroom and they fixed it as soon as we informed them. And then there is Elsa, the house cat. We just fall in love with her. Though it is not far from city but it gives you nice feeling of "in the middle of nowhere". Bus stop is around 1km away and buses are not so frequent (every 15-30 mins.). If you don't have car and you go in winter, you may face problem with communication especially when it snows heavily. You may not like walking around 1100m on a gravel trail in heavy snow and 60km/hr wind. We did it in the middle of the night and we loved it. It felt like we are exploring the Mars :) But if you have your car, then you don't have to worry about anything like this. Overall, staying at Hanna's house was an experience. We will definitely stay there again when we go back in Iceland.

We are Hanna, Helgi and Jónína Sif. Hanna and Helgi have been married for 20 years and Jónína is Hanna's sister. Together we manage this little guesthouse as well as a horse rental located at the same place.

Hanna and Helgi live close by (1km away) with their three sons, Jónína lives in Mosfellsbær - about 3km away.

We are working around the horses and the guesthouse everyday, but we do not live at the location. Hopefully we will meet you during your stay.

If you are interested in learning about Iceland, the culture and history as well as tasting some traditional food - you should check out our small horse rental and consider taking a tour with us.
