Victorian apartment on a quiet, dead-end street. Easy access to downtown Boston, Medical area, Harvard and MIT. Perfect for a vacation, sabbatical or business trip. Shops and public library nearby. Enquire about Tiny House for studio or more guests.

The space

The apartment is more than half of the first floor of a grand victorian house, built in 1859, that used to occupy the entire city block where it's located. It has 11-foot ceilings, two (non-working) marble fireplaces and a living room with walnut paneling and butler's pantry. A great place to stay while exploring Boston and Cambridge. Perfect for a Beantown vacation, visiting colleges or an academic sabbatical. Your patio, right next to the front door, would be a perfect place to enjoy breakfast or an evening glass of wine. There's a small park nearby for a short walk, and a bike path along the Charles River for more exercise.

Guest access

The apartment has its own entrance and its own off-street parking spot (second space on request).

Interaction with guests

We live in another apartment in the same house. The rental unit has its own entrance, so we don't need to interact with the guest unless requested. We're happy to provide guidance about Watertown or the Boston area, and we're here to help with anything else you might need during your stay. Dan is a Boston-area native and Sarah has lived here since 1980, so we can help with planning activities in and around the city.

Other things to note

Continental breakfast provided. We'll supply makings for coffee and tea, milk, yogurt, granola and toast. We have a friendly golden retriever, though he never goes in the rental unit (which is completely pet-free). You might see him in our fenced-in back yard and he's always available for informal canine companionship! Our Tiny House, in the side yard, could house two additional guests or be used as an inspirational studio or office (for an additional fee of $75/night). Seasonal use only as it is not heated for winter use.

Sarah and Dan's place is comfy and cozy with two large bedrooms, large kitchen and a large living area. Plenty of room for four adults. While the furniture is not new, it is exceptionally clean and neat. Sarah and Dan kept in contact throughout our stay. They provided everything we needed, including specialized soap, shampoo, a hair dryer and plenty of towels and blankets. Homemade granola was a thoughtful gift left by our hosts. There are plenty of places to eat in Watertown. Parks and Charles river close by and only an eighteen minute drive to the start of the Freedom Trail in Boston. We would definitely stay again. Felt like home.

We really love the house!! It is beautiful, spacious, clean, lovely, comfortable and with good location. It is near Charles river and we have had a walk after dinner every day. Dan and Sarah are incredible friendly and considerate. They prepare everything for us. I have to say the one week stay in their house is a terrific experience and becomes one of the most wonderful parts in our holiday in Boston!

Comfy, homey, large kitchen and living room, high ceilings, at the quiet end of a cul de sac. Friendly accommodating hosts with great, central Watertown location. We'll be back!

We really loved our stay at Dan and Sarah's. They are very accommodating hosts. They allowed us to have guests and even provided extra chairs. The kitchen and family room are big and allow for much comfort. Actually, the bedrooms were spacious as well. It was nice to have drawer and closet space too. We are definitely not the first to comment on the delicious homemade granola provided for us and I know we won't be the last. If you have a car, you'll be happy to know you can easily park on their street. Some areas require permits, but you won't have to worry about that at Dan and Sarah's. The area is beautiful and well maintained. There was a CVS within walking distance, which came in handy for the small items we needed. There are also some nice restaurants that are a quick drive away. We would for sure stay there again.

Our greeting -- a two page welcoming note with all kinds of valuable information, to which we often referred during our stay. We felt as if we were in a home, and not a rental apartment -- large fully equipped kitchen, plenty of space for our belongings, very comfortable bed, use of an excellent washer and dryer, especially since we were there for more than a few days, high ceilings and pleasant living room for our at-home time. We liked the proximity to our children's home in Watertown, and also to downtown Boston, the Turnpike, and other places. Sarah and Dan were always quickly available by email, although I once needed to talk to them, and Dan answered the phone immediately. Really -- more like friends than hosts!
