Victorian apartment on a quiet, dead-end street. Easy access to downtown Boston, Medical area, Harvard and MIT. Perfect for a vacation, sabbatical or business trip. Shops and public library nearby. Enquire about Tiny House for studio or more guests.
The apartment is more than half of the first floor of a grand victorian house, built in 1859, that used to occupy the entire city block where it's located. It has 11-foot ceilings, two (non-working) marble fireplaces and a living room with walnut paneling and butler's pantry. A great place to stay while exploring Boston and Cambridge. Perfect for a Beantown vacation, visiting colleges or an academic sabbatical. Your patio, right next to the front door, would be a perfect place to enjoy breakfast or an evening glass of wine. There's a small park nearby for a short walk, and a bike path along the Charles River for more exercise.
The apartment has its own entrance and its own off-street parking spot (second space on request).
Interaction with guests
We live in another apartment in the same house. The rental unit has its own entrance, so we don't need to interact with the guest unless requested. We're happy to provide guidance about Watertown or the Boston area, and we're here to help with anything else you might need during your stay. Dan is a Boston-area native and Sarah has lived here since 1980, so we can help with planning activities in and around the city.
Other things to note
Continental breakfast provided. We'll supply makings for coffee and tea, milk, yogurt, granola and toast. We have a friendly golden retriever, though he never goes in the rental unit (which is completely pet-free). You might see him in our fenced-in back yard and he's always available for informal canine companionship! Our Tiny House, in the side yard, could house two additional guests or be used as an inspirational studio or office (for an additional fee of $75/night). Seasonal use only as it is not heated for winter use.
Our house has very good sound insulation. But we ask guests not to make a lot of noise after about 11:00. We expect the house to be well cared for. Please no smoking. No fires in the fireplaces. They don't work.
Sarah is a nurse practitioner. Dan is a science journalist. We've lived in the same house in Watertown for 20 years.
