Jane is absolutely wonderful, as is her cheerful and elegant apartment. For our family of 5 with two young boys, the apartment was perfect for our two weeks stay. Let me run down a checklist for those who need details:
Cleanliness: thumbs up
Beds and bedding: thumbs up; very comfortable
Towels: thumbs up for both cleanliness, quantity and variety
Temperature control/regulation in apartment: thumbs up; each room in fact has its own heater/cooler that is separately adjustable
Kitchen: thumbs up; everything one might need, utensils, cups, plates, bowls, etc.
Water: thumbs up; we are especially grateful to Jane for generously stocking the kitchen with a large number of bottled waters for drinking. For tea and coffee, there is an efficient electric kettle that delivers piping hot water in just a couple of minutes.
Washer/Dryer: thumbs up.
Bathrooms: thumbs up; good water pressure for both cold and hot running water.
Views of the city: thumbs up; the views are especially spectacular when you step out onto the luxurious patio/veranda
Location: thumbs up, make that THUMBS UP; a mere 5 minute walk to the nearest subway station (which is under the breathtakingly opulent, gleaming IAPM shopping mall); coffee shops and bakeries plus great variety of western plus local cuisines are literally just outside the gate of the apartment compound.
Shopping for daily necessities: thumbs up; there is this great, enclosed farmers-market like place just outside the gates of the apartment compound. There you will find a wonderful fruit stand with everything you can think of, plus many stalls offering a variety of fresh fish and other creatures that swim, that along with, of course, the usual vegetables, poultry and meats. If you prefer the more conventional supermarkets, there is at least one big one also just around the corner.
Turning back to Jane, our gracious host. Having stayed at other airbnb places before (in the U.S. and Taiwan) , I would say Jane is without question the most considerate host of them all. For example, since Jane knew that our San Francisco-Shanghai flight schedule meant that we might not get to the apartment until after 9 pm, she offered to cook us some food so that we would not have to look for restaurants after a long flight. We did not take Jane up on this kind offer because we felt that would be too much of an imposition. But Jane's thoughtfulness in this and other matters was definitely very much appreciated.
Jane had a planned vacation in Japan the second week of our stay. So she asked her cousin Mona to cover for her in her absence. Mona turned out to another most pleasant and helpful person -- I think the geniality gene just runs in the family!
To sum up, I sincerely hope that the next time we visit Shanghai, we will be so fortunate as to be able to stay at Jane’s place again..
