This is a cozy one bedroom basement suite in Little Portugal/Dufferin Grove with private entrance in one of the best neighborhoods. Steps away from great restaurants, cafes, and galleries. Immediate access to transit and close to the subway.

The space

I think the key to our location and the space we are offering is that we can give an inside track to the best that Toronto has to offer in terms of art, culture, and food. We both work in the arts.

This charming basement apartment is located on a cute street in the Dufferin and College area. Close to a great coffee shop, bars, food, galleries, and Dufferin Grove Park. The apartment features an open living room/kitchen layout with nice ambient and warm lighting features. The bedroom is small but cozy which lends a very restful sleep. 4 people can be accommodated by converting the futon couch into a bed. The bathroom is admittedly small but serves it's purpose for getting ready for your day in Toronto. There are two closets for storage and clothes. Other features include a dishwasher, toaster oven, wireless internet connection, a very nice Bose stereo system.

The apartment is accessed through a private entrance at the front of the house. The suite is set up specifically for your needs. Some basic food condiments ie. sugar, salt, olive oil, (a starter amount) coffee and tea will be provided. The kitchen also includes most cooking utensils that you would need.

The bathroom comes with towels, handsoap, and toilet paper.

Bedding is provided as well for the bedroom and the futon if required.

For those who stay for a week or more, arrangements can be made for use of the backyard BBQ and laundry service for sheets and towels.

Interaction with guests may vary depending on our work schedules. Because the entrance is private you will likely not see much of us. However, we will do our best to provide you with the information and things you need to make your stay most enjoyable.

It's hard to summarize all the great things about our neighbourhood! We have a great Park, a great Mall (it may seem funny to be excited about a mall, but it is pretty great), an organic grocery store, a farmers market, and good access to transit. The area is culturally diverse which means we're minutes from a great Portuguese Churrascaria, Vietnamese Pho joint, Tortilleria, and just around the corner is Tavoos, a fantastic Persian restaurant that's been getting lots of attention for it's breakfasts and lunch. We are also right next to Little Italy so if you like Italian it's not too far away either! We have the best coffee shop in the city "The Common" just two quick blocks away.

There's also MKG gallery, Jessica Bradley Gallery, Art Metropol, and a number of great shops.

We are just one street north of one of the major city arteries, College Street. You can take the College right across the city or if you walk just a full block south to Dundas you can take it straight to the doorstep of the Art Gallery of Ontario in about 20 minutes. The College car will connect you to the subway system but you can also quickly walk to Dufferin station to take the subway to the Royal Ontario Museum, The Gardiner Museum, The Bata Shoe Museum, The Royal Conservatory/Koerner Hall and Luxury shopping area, 15-20 minutes.

We will provide a map and guest guidebook to help you navigate the best parts of the city. In the summer we recommend your stay include a trip to Toronto island for instance!

Great Events happening in Toronto this year include:
NXNE = June 13-22
TD JAZZ Fest = June 19-28
World PRIDE 2014 = June 20-29
Toronto Fringe Festival = July 2-13

Michelle's apartment was cozy, cute and clean, a great base for my time in Toronto. Ideally located on a quiet street but a few minutes walk from groceries, shops and a subway stop, which meant it was really easy for me to get around. The apartment had everything I needed for it to be a comfortable stay. Michelle also went above and beyond as a host, letting me drop my things off early so I didn't have to lug them around while waiting to check in. When I ran into a bit of slow wifi in the apartment, she very quickly addressed the problem. She answered all my questions about the neighborhood and getting to the airport thoughtfully and promptly, which I really appreciated. Thanks so much, Michelle!

Response from Michelle:
Yumi was a great guest. One small note for anyone concerned about the wifi - the problem was only temporary- we have decent wifi for the suite.

Loved this suite. Perfect for our family of 4 (kids 3 & 6 yrs). Really appreciate Michelle's aesthetic sensibility and all the lovely details (towels, sweet glasses and kitchen towels, bath soaps, linens, etc.). Very clean, colorful, comfortable, simply refreshing. At first we were unsure about the lower level/limited window location, but the lighting is very well done and glass doors offer sufficient sunlight and cross breeze. The pullout was perfect for our two younger kids. The entry garden, with mature canopy trees overhead, was very inviting (love the use of native plantings here). The convenience of the grocery store nearby was great, and a nearby yummy Vietnamese restaurant and perfect coffee spot provided the essentials we needed. This was a cozy, quiet home base for us to explore the city on our first visit to Toronto. We would love to stay again. Many thanks!

A great place to stay in Toronto. Quiet and calm, yet only minutes away from a shopping mall, underground station and a lot of bars, cafes and restaurants in the direct neighbourhood. Would love to return here on a next visit to Toronto.

My husband and I visited Toronto for a week and stayed in Michelle's place. Since it was our first time using Airbnb, we were a bit nervous, but the only drawback is that now we will expect all places/hosts to be as welcoming as Michelle's!! We had a great experience! The bed and pull-out sofa are extremely comfortable, the place is very clean and the area is quiet. This private basement apartment is close to restaurants and bars and close to transportation, too: the street car is around the corner and the closest subway station is a few blocks away. What also was a great surprise is that our host made sure to provide everything we might need in the apartment, from coffee, tea and a water bottle in the kitchen to body lotion for the bathroom (lotion which, by the way, was so good that I'm looking into buying some for myself) and even a yoga mat and an umbrella! She respected our privacy and even though we couldn't get an early check-in/late check-out because of outgoing/ incoming guests, she made sure we could leave our bags there for a few hours. We felt like home, so we would definitely go back! Thanks, Michelle!

It is good place to stay in Little Portugal. The bathroom is indeed tiny, but suited our needs. Overall, very comfortable.

I am a media arts professional. I love Greece, music, cinema, wine, and cooking.
My idea of a good time is having dinner with friends, dancing or a day at the beach.

As a host I will leave you a crisp and clean environment.
