From the moment I arrived Emilio (Jenny's husband) was completely helpful and accommodating. I arrived hours later than I expected due to really bad traffic in San Jose. Emilio helped me to get a taxi and waited up for me to get there.
The cabina is tucked away from the road in Cauita and you are surrounded by beautiful rainforest. You can hear howler monkeys surrounding you, all kinds of birds including toucans and peacocks. It's such a sweet romantic get away. I was alone for the first part of my trip and felt completely safe there. I didn't need to worry about leaving my things, the staff came in and cleaned everyday and kept everything tidy.
The front porch was perfection. I fell asleep in the hammock many times listening to the rainstorm and sipping tea.
This is a very magical place to stay in Puerto Viejo.
Emilio and Jenny even gave us a ride home one night when it was dark. And he also went out of his way to find us the last day while we were shopping in the village, to tell us our interbus was not set up correctly. He made sure everything was smooth.
I would definitely stay here again.
One thing to note, the place isn't really walking distance to Puerto Viejo, or the beaches. But Emilio set up bike rentals and it wasn't a problem, 10 minute bike ride to town and 30 minutes to the beautiful Punta Uva beach. Which was actually great, I got my excercise in!
The only drawback to this was that it wasn't really safe to bike after dark, so for dinners taxis were required.
But that wasn't an issue, they were very prompt.
Everything about this place was perfect. Jungle meets beach. Tucked away from the hustle bustle of Puerto Viejo. And a wonderful retreat to wake up every morning and open the windows to the sounds of the jungle.
