Our clean and comfortable loft with 14ft ceilings and big, beautiful windows looks out onto Main St. and the lawn of Bennett High School. We are within walking distance of UB South Campus and a 10 minute drive to all the happenings of Elmwood Village

The space

The building which now houses the 87 loft-style apartments was once the major production site of the Buffalo Meter Company. Completed in 1917 by the nationally renowned architectural firm Lockwood, Greene & Co, the building has stood the test of time (and the harsh Buffalo winters). It was acquired by the University of Buffalo in the 70s to provide studio space for the art and architecture departments. The total renovation and conversion to lofts was finished only 2 years ago. In 2012, the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places as an intact example of a daylight factory in the city of Buffalo. Odes to the history of 2917 Main St are evident throughout the building, from the original artwork in the lobby, to the photographs of the factory before renovation that line the hallways, to the concrete walls and large windows that retain the feel of the original structure. The namesake of Bethune Lofts, Louise Blanchard Bethune, was the first woman in America to work as a professional architect. Her most famous lasting work is the historic Hotel Lafayette that stands in the center of downtown Buffalo.

Our apartment is in the Southwest corner of the building. Thus, the living room has a wall of windows facing Main St and a wall of windows facing next door's Bennett High School. The windows provide plenty of sunshine and can be opened for fresh air. It is a pleasure to watch the activity of Main St and the sports fans heading to the All High Stadium behind Bennett High School (a field that was featured in the 1984 film adaptation of The National).

The apartment has two bedrooms, one with a double bed and the other with a queen-sized bed. Both bedrooms have ample closet space and desks.

Additionally, the living room has two large daybeds that can function as couches or additional sleeping space for guests. There is a flat-screen TV for movie viewing and a large table for dinner parties or work/study.

The kitchen has all new stainless steel appliances, lots of storage, and counter space for prepping large meals.

Guest access

Guests will have access to the entire apartment and the amenities of the building, which include a fully-equipped exercise room and a laundry room (card or coin operated).

There is a large, gated parking lot in the rear of the building for residents.

Interaction with guests

We will not be home at the time of renting.

Other things to note

The building is extremely safe. Doors are always locked and require fob swipe access for entry.

The rubbage and recycling are disposed of in chutes on each floor of the building for convenient cleaning.

The friendly building manager, Melinda, is available for assistance and always willing to help (or offer chocolate). And the building maintenance staff is top of the line.

Christina was incredibly welcoming and easy to contact throughout entire process. The listing was exactly as described, certainly very airy and spacious! I love the way Christina had it decorated. The location is wonderful, especially if you have a car (Christina provided a parking pass) since this apartment seemed to be less than 20 minutes away from all attractions: mall, beach, you name it! Even if you don't have a car it seems like it would be pretty easy to get around using public transportation. If you are looking for a clean, comfortable and stylish place to stay in Buffalo, I highly recommend Christina's apartment!
