The space

My home is a late 19th century shotgun style home. Guests have use of front porch (and porch swing), large bright room with hardwood floors, high ceilings, ceiling fan and original mantelpiece, private bathroom with claw foot tub. It’s a small apartment at the front of my house, decorated with imagery of New Orleans culture such as, Mardi Gras Indians and Second lines. Mini fridge, microwave, and coffee maker provided. You won’t need a stove (you’re in New Orleans after all :-) and there are numerous cafes, restaurants and a corner grocery store all within 5 minute walking distance.
Your stay includes free Wireless Internet, TV with basic stations.
No smoking in the house. However, the front porch is an excellent place to smoke or enjoy a drink on the evening, or coffee in the morning.

Other things to note

This area is relatively safe part of the city. A company, Metro, provides 24 hour security patrol in the neighborhood. I have lived happily and safely in the back half of the house for over 20 years. There is a small school playground in the block, so on weekday mornings kids may be heard outside after 8AM if its nice weather.

What a great location! I love Magazine street and this is right in the center of it! Great restaurants nearby, fun bars, and the street car is just a few blocks away. The room was perfect for us as a home base, and we enjoyed the snacks Mary left for us. Would stay again for sure!

Well first of all, i LOVED the house. Super clean & cozy. Mary was awesome!! She’s a great host, very thoughtful & caring. The location is great, literally is a 2 minute walk to Magazine St (there’s a lot of good restaurants and bar there). The neighborhood is very beautiful, is worth walking around to get to know it. I highly recommend you book this place for your next trip to New Orleans. I know that whenever I come back I will for sure stay there again. Again Mary, thanks for your hospitality. We had a great time.

Nice location, just a few blocks from streetcar transit & Magazine St restaurants. Everything you'd need on a visit to New Orleans. Private apartment with porch swing out front. Would definitely recommend to anyone and would stay here again. Mary gave us our privacy, while staying in contact and making herself available if we needed anything.

Mary's is a wonderful place to stay in the Garden District. She includes thoughtful touches, like umbrellas, a first-aid kit, and a fresh carton of creamer. Her binder of information is helpful for learning about the area and nearby restaurants, of which they are quite a few, including the incredible Shaya. It's not far to St. Charles and the trolley, and Magazine is less than a minute away. A quiet area away from the tourist crush in the French Quarter, but there's still plenty to see and do as well as a nightlife with a few 24-hour bars. We liked Le Bon Temps Roule, especially on Friday with their free oysters and live piano music. We would stay again!

Staying at Mary's was perfect. The studio is comfortable and very well located with nice restaurants, coffee shops and bars at a walking distance. A huge record store and other nice shops are right there too. Drinking a glass of the complimentary wine on the front porch swing was the best way to start our trip there. Mary was very welcoming and caring, she gave us a flashlight and battery powered fan when a hurricane threatened to take the power down. We would definitely stay again at Mary's !!

Thank you Vincent. It was lovely to meet you both. And so pleased that hurricane Nate didn't come this way in the end!

If you are vacationing or relocating Mary's place is by far above and beyond expectations. By the five stars in every category a future guest will know what they are walking into. Mary is a very thoughtful and courteous host. Her space has an excellent feel and is quiet, safe yet close enough to transportation and all the happenings on Magazine street. If this is your first time with airbnb be sure you book Mary's. If you are not new to airbnb be sure to book Mary's to really treat yourself.

About Mary

Originally from the UK, I made New Orleans home over 20 years ago. I teach for a living which allows me to travel to other countries to experience the different art, architecture, food and culture in general. However, I'm always happy to come home to New Orleans which has its own unique rhythm and rich culture.
