Beautifully located in Kamarajar Lake Valley, bordered by Palani and Kannivadi hills in Tamil Nadu, South India.

You get a romantic AC cottage witch a maximum of privacy and an excellent view over the surroundings in the middle of nature.

The space

Our property is a natural garden boarding the Reserve Forest of Kamarajar Valley. We are in the center of the most southern tip of India and is a nice, friendly and relaxing stop on the classic temple routes of Tamil Nadu.

Our 1 acre property is at the end of the road 6 km from the most nearby village Athoor. You can enjoy the quiet and authentic Indian rural life in a walk to the village or nature and bird-life during hikes around the lake or in the hills.

Guest access

We offer you Shanti Nivas, a romantic cottage, with much privacy and an exciting view over the lake. The cottage has standard two beds but there is room for one additional bed for an extra surcharge.

When you are with a big family or group, there are three more rooms available with the same room rate per night:

1. the main house is available with a well equipped kitchen for rent when you like to cook yourself. Additional surcharge for the kitchen, above the room rent, is Rs. 750/day.

2. two well furnished rooms in a separate cottage.

All rooms are non-AC and have their own shady veranda, own bathroom and ceiling fans. We can easily accommodate 4 individual couples or a group or family up to 10 members.

On request we can extend the accommodation and arrange events or group meetings up to 25 members. Please, contact the owner.

Interaction with guests

Most of the time my wife and I are available and we like to interact with our guests. But if you prefer, you can have a maximum privacy.

We offer Indian vegetarian and non-vegetarian fare but also European, Indonesian, Southeast Asian and Mexican dishes. The menus are set, but we try to find out in advance what the guests prefer. Because we are very small we can give our guests our full attention. For example, our vegetarian fare is not only a meal without meat, but a specially catered vegetarian version of the meal that is served that night. A lot of our food is also homegrown and homemade. We make our own jams, marmalade and breads. Also from our eco-farm we get some fresh fruits and vegetables, eggs, and milk which we use to make cheese and curd.

We, a Dutch couple and our Indian staff, will look after you in a unique Dutch - Indian blend.

Other things to note

At a distance of 250 to 350 km of us, at the West Coast of India, you will find the sunny tropical beaches of Kovalam and Varkala, and the exotic backwaters of Cochin, Alleppey to Kollam.

In the surrounding mountains lay the hillstations of Kodaikanal and Munnar, the green wide tea plantations and the wildlife of the national parcs like Periyar and Anamalai.

My wife Gemma and I visited India since 1980 nearly every year as back packers. After exploring this magical country for many years we took an early retirement and settled at the border of Kamarajar Lake, Athoor, Dindigul Dt., South India. We started as a family home in 1994 and are involved with educational projects, run by a local Indian NGO, funded by a Dutch Charity.

When we arrived the property was barren, red soil earth strewn with rocks. Our mission over the years has been to restore the land to its natural jungle beauty and to bring back the wildlife after years of neglect and overgrazing. After much hard work, we have gotten the place looking green again and have noticed a large influx of wildlife. We then began our own small scale, “eco friendly” farm with a vegetable garden, cows, goats, rabbits, chickens, Guiney fowls, ducks, turkeys, dogs and cats.

Throughout the years many friends and family came to stay with us and now we like to share it with you.
