Altadena is a very unique community. There is a farmers market every Wednesday night at the park down the street from the studio. There is fresh produce there, ready to eat food and eco friendly booths on the first Wednesday and music on the 2nd Wednesday of each month.
Guests have access to pool and spa which is quiet private from family home. We do use the pool in the summer. Guests may inquire about availability of private use of pool at an additional price. We ask that guests let us know early in the day when they'd like to use spa so we can program it. We offer use of the spa for two hours each day guests are renting.
Interaction with guests
As needed. There is a keyless entry so guests can let themselves in or we can meet guests upon check in as needed. The house is quite private from the studio giving guests---and us privacy :).
Other things to note
Please ask about availability of special long-term business traveler rate. There is not a full kitchen but studio has a microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker. There is a two burner electric cook top and pots and pans. There us a utility sink in the bathroom which make doing dishes easy--think tiny house. We also provide paper goods if you're u don't want to do dishes and guests are welcome to leave dirty dishes in bin when they leave.
General Info, please read
-Parking: We provide guests with one parking space on the right side of the driveway. Please park any additional cars on the street.
-Guests: We don’t mind if you have a few guests over for a short visit but we do ask that you let us know if anyone other than those in the rental contract will be on the property. Any guest not on the rental agreement must leave the property by 10:00 pm.
-Noise: No parties and no noise that could be heard by neighbors after 10:00 pm--including music at the pool area, as this is a peaceful residential neighborhood.
-Food delivery or guests: Please describe location of studio in relation to our front door for food delivery or meet delivery in the driveway. Please direct your guest to find the studio on the right side of our driveway at 4554 Risinghill Rd or to call you so you can meet them in the driveway rather than having them come to our front door.
-Home is in the Angeles National Forest: As described on the site there are hiking trails right outside the door. The neighborhood is in Wildlife –Urban Interface; therefore, we do experience wildlife on the property. In the summer and especially on very hot days---especially as it cools on very hot days---guests must be watchful of rattlesnakes. We have seen a few over the years and have never felt in danger. Just let us know if you see one, we have a neighbor who comes and relocates them. Don’t walk into bushes or down on the area below the deck and you should be fine. Also, occasionally we have bears come up to the property. If you see one just try to bang a pot or make loud noise and he will go away. And please do not leave any food out on in the pool area.
-Spa: temp is controlled in house. Please let Dennis or Margaret know if you’d like to use the spa by calling or texting us at (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) (Dennis) or (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) (Margaret) early in the day with the hours you’d like it on. We can then program it to turn on and off. It takes 30-60 minutes to heat to 101 depending on the weather.
-Pool: The pool is usually warm in the summer. It can be heated in Spring months for an additional fee, which is dependent on the weather, at our discretion. It takes a couple days to heat the pool if it’s really cold. Parents must be present at the pool when children are swimming. Please no screaming or loud noise (exception, emergencies). This is a residential neighborhood and sounds travel through the canyon. We use the pool during the summer so we ask that you keep this area tidy. If guests would like to reserve the pool for private use please ask for availability and price.
-Outside lights: will be automatically on in the evening.
-There are additional lights in the tree. Turn them on by plugging in extension cord at barbeque outlet. Please remember to turn these lights off when you’re done. There is a switch at the barbeque that turns on an additional light for the barbeque and the pool and spa lights. There is a porch light by the front door near the driveway that you can use if you plan to return when it is dark, please remember to turn off this light once you arrive.
Outdoor Furniture: We ask that you not sit on the outdoor furniture with sunscreen on…please place a towel on the furniture before sitting if you have sunscreen on. Please let us know so we can clean it up or use the Scotchgard Oxy Spot and Stain Remover if a spill occurs (located under sink).
Dishes: There is a large container for doing dishes, dish soap, a dishrag and a drying pad in the shelf below the microwave. What we did when we lived in the studio for a year is make a sudsy bowl of water and place it on the edge of the sink. After rinsing dishes in the bathroom sink we would walk them out to the kitchenette bar to dry. Alternatively, just leave dirty dishes in the bin provided and we will wash them when you leave or use paper goods provided.
-Cutting Board: Please use the cutting board we have provided and avoid cutting on the butcher-block countertop.
-Barbeque: Please do not place greasy items directly on the stone around the barbeque as it stains.
-Trash Day is Tuesday: the cans are behind the small fence on the east side of the driveway by the house—Green: yard waste, Blue: recycle, Black: regular waste.
-Linen and blankets for the sofa bed are in the chest/coffee table. Don’t hesitate to ask for extra blankets as/if needed.
-Water: As you may have heard California is in a severe drought. Any effort you can make to conserve water is appreciated.
We expect a certain amount of wear and tear but we also know spills happen. Please attempt to clean up spills or call or text us so that we can ASAP.
Thanks you for keeping our home nice during your stay so that it’s nice for other guests and you---too, the next time you come! ☺
