La Casetta was built in 1700's to be the main residence of an 800 farmhouse, il Poggiolo. Built in the Medici style... roof cornices, window proportions, exterior stone mouldings... it was never finished. The house was re-built & modernised in 2009.
La Casetta was intended to be the owner's main residence attached to an 800 working farmi-house in the community of Codiponte. Built on 3 floors but it was never completed. As it usually happens in Italy, death divides a property. La Casetta is the top two floors. Below is a gallery and small apartment belonging to another individual.
The Entrance is on the right after going up the ramp after crossing the Medieval bridge of Codiponte. Once-upon-a-time, you had to pay a tax to cross it. The pay window is now an arch before you cross back over. You immediately enter La Casetta into the DR off of which is a full Kitchen and the GBR with two single beds. The stairs leads to the 2nd Floor and a Salotto or, LR with an enclosed fireplace. A short hallway leads to the MBR with a double bed and the Bathroom with shower.
The house was completely re-built and modernised in 2009. It is decorated with an eclectic mix of period antiques, flea-market finds and contemporary artwork.
To reach the garden, exit the house, pass through a painted gate and make the first right through the cantine of Il Poggiolo and outside, the Fish Pond! The 2,000 square meters of terraced garden is planted with fruit-trees, olive-trees and other flowering bushes. There is lovely shade to read or nap or sunshine for sunbathing or just listening to the peace & quiet. It's all for you to use so, come & enjoy staying at La Casetta del Poggiolo!
There is parking at the Medieval bridge before crossing to the village and Il Poggiolo. If full, then there is an area below.
The central Courtyard is available to the guests of La Casa Padronale. There are tables & chairs stored in the out-building.
The area of the Garden to the east of the house and reached through the stall along the under-passage and the door to the outside. Above the fish pond is an ample area both shady & sunny to enjoy.
The village has two small convenience stores for basic food & cleaning items. One is Alimentari Anna. The other is at the bar... the social center of the village... on the main road. There are also a green grocer and an excellent butcher at the corner of the main road and the road to the Medieval Bridge.
There are additional food stores and other shops in the towns above & below Codiponte and in Aulla at the exit-entrance to the autostrada.

I am an American born in Denver, Colorado. Italy has been my home for the past 25 years. I came to be a fashion designer, which I did successfully for 15 years. I now write, make art, take care of two Weimaraners, Moses & Nina, and the two homes I share with my boy-friend of 15 years.
