Stay in a private wing of this 15th century rambling - family home. See our reviews on the Alistair Sawday Special Places to Stay guide! The price is for 2 and includes a feast of an English breakfast with the best produce, locally sourced and our own eggs and often our own fruit and vegetables. Shabby chic happens here effortlessly. Nooks and crannies, uneven-flagstones, sloping wooden floors, crackling log fires, woodburners - fresh flowers from our gardens
A warm welcome all here!
Peace and tranquility are found at Wickton, apart from the ducks quacking on the pond outside the bedroom window, the baa-ing sheep in the orchard and a cockerel crowing and hens clucking. Sleep in a 4 poster bed in a private suite, or the separately listed twin bedded room in a heavily beamed room with sloping floor and private bathroom. Magnificent breakfasts in the fabulous panelled room....
Alas, due to the age of this house, it is not suited to those whose mobility is limited. Bedrooms are upstairs in a private wing. The wonderful ancient panelled room with enormous inglenook fireplace, large dining table, squishy sofa and Bechstein baby grand piano is for guest use and the gardens, currently being re-developed are for our guests enjoyment - as well as the tennis court ( unless previously booked for coaching)
Interaction with guests
We are a relaxed and friendly household and do our best to make our guests feel at home. Our aim is to make you want to return! As long as we know what our guests are needing, we can do our best to provide!
Other things to note
We have pets here - 3 dogs - all friendly and 2 cats - also very friendly. There are hens and a cockerel - these may, on occasions wander in through doors that tend to be open to the outside in summer months! The ducks are often in the garden as well as on the pond. We welcome muddy boots and paws - it means you have been on a great walk
We may allow pets - but only if they are able to be happy with our own dogs and be kept on leads at all times. None of our dogs or cats go upstairs - the same will apply to guests dogs. Please discuss the options with us first. There is no smoking in any part of the house. We can be very flexible to cater for our guests needs - and breakfast will not be at set times aside from check out morning, when we need to be able to prepare for new guests arriving later that day. Evening meals can be provided with prior warning but as we are not a hotel, no choice can be offered, but we can make sure specific likes/dislikes are taken in to consideration. We welcome children but please note, there are ponds and adjacent farm machinery within the immediate vicinity
I was previously managing director of a small chain of clothing shops in Shropshire and Herefordshire whilst our boys were growing up and at school.
The boys are now grown and have left home and I no longer have shops, but my husband and I now rattle around in a great fun place with the dogs, cats, hens and ducks and wish to share this space with others who will enjoy the delights of Wickton as much as we do!
I loved to look after my customers in my shops and had a large and loyal following. I want my Bed and Breakfast to gather a similar following - guests wanting to return for another stay here at Wickton!
We are relaxed and comfy, we encourage muddy boots and slippers . We know there are all sorts of reasons for being away from home and as long as we have an understanding of your particular reasons, be they work or pleasure, relaxed or scheduled, we can do our very best to make sure we provide what you require!
Herefordshire is a secret county - diversely agricultural - as I type, our neighbouring farm is busy planting potatoes! We pride ourselves on giving our guests local produce - be it award winning breads from our friend, Peter Cook ( you can attend his well known courses!) bacon and sausages from local pigs! eggs from our own hens and vegetables, salads and fruits from our kitchen garden, ably managed by our fabulous gardener Ralph - who looks just like Father Christmas!
The Wickton credo is - do as you would be done to - what you give, you receive - happiness is delightful!
