We had the best time in Lagrasse, all thanks to Simon and his beautiful La Galleria gite. This home is simply exquisite. The pictures don't being to do it justice -- everything, from the design to the furnishings to little details throughout, is of impeccable quality and evokes a refined but un-stuffy aesthetic. Simon is a lovely host, too -- he gave us a warm welcome, a tour of the home (and the incredible story of its transformation, from literal ruins to the work of architectural art that it is today!). He had excellent recommendations for activities and restaurants in the area -- and was kind enough to handle the booking for our dinner on the first night. It was so hard to leave such a beautiful place -- but we look forward to returning, and hope to stay at La Galleria again!

Simon was a welcoming and excellent host. His home is amazing and a treat to experience. He expertly combined the old with the new to create an authentic and comfortable living space. His lovely wife Diane was also welcoming and helpful. Wonderful location in a gem of a village. We would definitely return to stay longer!

Simon and Diane were wonderful hosts. They met us when we arrived and showed us around the beautiful house. They gave us a list of local places to visit with suggested days out. The house is beautiful - arranged over two floors and enough space easily for 6 people. Every morning we sat on the top balcony and enjoyed breakfast outside. The house is super well equipped with all mod-cons you could need. The bed linen and towels are lovely quality giving our stay a truly luxurious feel. The house is situated centrally in the town but is also really quiet. Within a 2 mins walk there are several lovely restaurants serving the best French food. We loved out time in the tranquil and luxurious surrounding and look forward to going back.

Our stay in medieval Lagrasse was enhanced considerably by our host, Simon. He greeted us very warmly before showing us around the beautiful house he has created from ruins and of which he is justifiably immensely proud. A walk around the village with Simon proved invaluable, with him pointing out restaurant recommendations and places of interest. A subsequent visit with him to nearby wine caves was a highlight. Simon kindly provided us with recommendations for excursions out from Lagrasse, including a boulangerie which became a firm favourite of ours. With regards to the house, just be aware there is a staircase to negotiate between levels. We hope to return one day. Many thanks, Simon!

Simon and Diane were excellent hosts, giving us a detailed guided tour of the property, on arrival, and ensuring we had a restaurant reservation on our first night (the village was busy because of a music festival). The fridge was stocked with a bottle of local bubbly and ground coffee. And there was a small bottle of Simon's (excellent) own-grown olive oil in the kitchen. Lagrasse is a gem. Set around a medieval market square, beside a river and an historic abbey, it manages to be both tranquil and, if you want, really quite lively. There were two music festivals in the village while we were there: a roots/reggae/funk festival and a festival of classical piano music (there's variety). Neither disrupted the tranquility of this gite. The photographs don't quite do the gite justice. The picture on the kitchen wall, an old butcher's sign, is two metres tall – so this is a very tall and lofty open space and a really nice kitchen to work in and to entertain. The place is really spacious, with a terrace for soaking the sun (with an outdoor grill for al fresco dining), a cool covered terrace below, for when the sun is too much, a spacious downstairs lounge area and a garden with sun loungers. For those taking their work on holiday with them, there is a little study area on the mezzanine floor. Everything you could want from the south of France is here: wineries, country walks, culture, restaurants and, if you have a car, you are only about 45 minutes from the beach at Narbonne Plage (and 10 minutes from an excellent steak at the unpretentious Cafe Grand in Febrezan). A wonderful break, a lovely place, would recommend without hesitation.

This home is just perfect for travelers hoping to relax and unwind in an elegant but comfortable medieval village. The house itself is a large, three level stone house with two outdoor patios and a garden, which was recently completely restored by Simon, an architect who studied at the École des Beaux Arts in Paris. The beds and bedrooms and linens were all of the highest quality, large and comfortable. The furnishings are beautiful and historic. Simon and Diane are possibly the most interesting and thoughtful hosts in all of airbnb. They welcomed our three generational group (grandparents, parents, teens) with open arms, helping us by making dinner reservations, showing us around, and sharing their knowledge of the region. And of course, Lagrasse is a bustling rural outpost, center of Cathar castles and abbeys, rivers, olives and grapes, with just the right mixture of ancient and modern.

It's an absolute pleasure to write a review for this wonderful Airbnb home. To be honest we were reluctant to book this property due to lack of reviews - but Simon and Diane reassured as that everything would be great..... The house exceeded our expectations. This is a beautiful home in a beautiful village run by two lovely people. We were looking for a quiet "getaway" and as the house is situated along a private drive that's exactly what we (URL HIDDEN) street (URL HIDDEN) cars :) Simon and Diane greeted us as promised and were so enthusiastic in showing us about the house. Champagne and nibbly bits were provided which was a lovely surprise. They're wonderful hosts and a pleasure to do business with. Mustn't forget the extremely comfy beds, the house is huge with so much space and all mod cons one could wish for. I would recommend this highly. 10/10. Thank you simon and Diane. Phil and Andrew.
