San Frediano is one of most popular neighborhoods in Florence. Access is through Porta San Frediano on the west end of the Oltrarno. Borgo San Frediano leads to the San Frediano in Cestello church. The church stands in the place where once stood a monastery, Santa Maria degli Angeli, founded in 1450. Further down Borgo San Frediano, Chiesa di Santa Maria di Carmine is found in Piazza del Carmine. The Brancacci Chapel is found inside the church of Santa Maria di Carmine. Beautifully designed by Masaccio and Masolino from 1423 to 1428. San Frediano is still home to many artisans who still work in their workshops as they did in the past.
Very closed to downtown, with attractions within walking distance
