The space

The house is tucked away on a quiet lane in Stockbridge. We have only one B&B bedroom (with two single beds in it). It's quite compact, freshly decorated and clean, and you have your own door onto a walled garden. You have a private shower room directly opposite your bedroom, and off the shower room there is a large sauna - just let us know if you'd like to use it (there's a small extra charge) and we'll sort out the rest. The room has a TV, radio and free WiFi.

Nick and Jennie are friendly hosts, local to Edinburgh and full of ideas of things to do (if that's what you want). There's a tray and fridge in your room so that you can make tea or coffee when you like, and we provide fresh milk, fruit and homemade flapjacks to start your day.

It's a great location, nice walk to the centre through the historic New Town. We're near lots of cafes, quirky shops and pubs, the botanical gardens and a riverside walk that takes you to two of the main art galleries, and the botanical gardens. If you don't fancy the 15-minute walk into town, there's a bus stop five minutes away and once on the bus you'll be right in the centre in just a few minutes. If you have a car, by the way, you can park in the garden and ignore the traffic wardens!

For those of you who are into your sports and exercise, there's a small (Victorian) swimming pool with a tiny gym round the corner and fitness classes, and British Military Fitness sessions three times a week in the local park (where you can also play tennis, cricket, football, rugby, bowling and petanque; or just feed the ducks!).

That's enough from us - here are some comments from people who've stayed here:

"this is the perfect place to relax close to the heart of the city"
"we loved the house and the warm welcome was wonderful"
"breakfast was fantastic, this is such a friendly relaxed place to be"
"you were very hospitable, incredibly informative and most importantly, friendly"
"I travel all over the world and it's great when you arrive in places like this!"
"your home is brilliantly positioned for exploration of the city"
"we came as new friends and left as old ones. FLAPJACKS! We'll remember them forever"
"you were so helpful to us in finding those 'special' places"
"it's nice to stay in such a homely atmosphere with genuine people"
"it's over four years since my first stay and the B&B still rocks!"
"simply charming, charmingly simple - Edinburgh's best kept secret"
"thank you for the wonderful days we were spending in your beautiful, artistic and cosy home"
"what a joy to stay in your bright and positive environment"
"Oh no, we're leaving!"
"Your really cool & friendly. You've got a wicked house!"

Just a few rules that help us to keep the room smart and clean - we ask guests not to smoke in the house , and although our two cats are very friendly and popular, we would ask you not to let them into your bedroom. They will try! But we prefer not to let them in, in case we have guests who are allergic to cats.

Nick and Jennie were the loveliest of hosts who gave us lots of information about Edinburgh and the area we were staying in. They have many years of having guests stay and are very trusting in having people stay in their environment. the accomodation is wonderful with a great shower and the garden right outside the door is so peaceful and relaxing. It's a true oasis and was a pleasure to stay there. They also allowed us to park our rental car in their yard which was such a bonus. Their breakfasts are healthy and appetising. Also the two cats Millie and Mo are such playful characters and a delight to have around. Their daughter Sophie took care of our needs on one of the nights while they were called away on family matters. Paul was even able to play their piano before we went which was lovely. The house is beautifully decorated and we have no hesitation in recommending a stay. We would love to come back there as it is a great location with it's own village with a market selling high quality goods and loads of restaurants and shops. It's wonderful to see so many different dogs walking their owners! Thanks Nick and Jennie for your hospitality.

Nick is very hospitable and the Coach House is a very comfortable place to stay and a fascinating building. It is in a lovely area, with many eating places nearby, and within walking distance of the city centre.

A great location for visiting Edinburgh. Easy access to the centre either on foot or by bus. Stockbridge has loads of eating places. The Coach House is a quiet area to relax in after the bustle of the city centre.

Nick was a friendly and helpful host who can offer suggestions on places to go. There was a set of leaflets in the room as well. The room has its own entrance from the garden so you don't have to worry about disturbing anyone else as you come and go. You have your own bathroom which is just across the hallway - a dressing gown is provided if you need it. The shower was easy to operate and gave a steady stream of water at a constant temperature. The room was clean and comfortable though the beds are low so if you have mobility problems getting in and out of bed may be a struggle. The hospitality tray included hot chocolate and several types of green tea as well as the normal tea and coffee. There's also a fridge containing milk, orange juice and yogurts plus enough space to put items of your own. Breakfast is the yogurts, fresh fruit in a bowl and flapjacks which are all topped up when needed. The flapjacks are really yummy. Nick and Jenny have two lovely cats. We had been asked to keep their two cats out of the room but we found they didn't try (maybe they have sussed they are not allowed) however be prepared to be greeted in the garden where they are happy to be fussed.

Thank you for a lovely stay. The room was clean and tidy with its own access. We found this particularly useful when going to and from comedy gigs during the fringe festival. The room had lovely little touches like it's own tea/coffee/hot chocolate and biscuits. There was even a fridge with milk, orange juice and yoghurts. The bathroom was absolutely spotless! Finally, we couldn't have asked for more from the hosts. Friendly, knowledgable and nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely be staying in the future I'm sure.

I was born and brought up in Edinburgh and I've always enjoyed living here. There is a real community atmosphere and great amenities available, which we love to promote. We can also recommend an excellent range of bars and restaurants, all within minutes of our home here in Stockbridge. Jennie, who is also local to Edinburgh, inspires everyone who meets her with her warm smile and welcome. We have felt sincerely privileged to meet many guests during the last sixteen years. They arrive as visitors and leave as friends. We love travelling ourselves and one of the best things is getting to meet locals so that's the perspective we take when we have guests in the house.

Both Jennie and I are keen followers of all sports - and the Arts. We both work in education, and are passionate about supporting a full age range of people with learning difficulties. Piping is also a hobby of mine and I can share some information about our national instrument if you are interested.
