Enjoy privacy at Mahalo's beautiful, no shoes, sound healing temple for retreat, meditation & yoga, w/ a new futon & a single bed. Share gardens & outdoor fire circles. Love the off-the-grid energy & composting toilet.
It's glorified camping: BYO bedding/sleeping bag, pillow; no running water, no breakfast foods, *no eating in the temple*. Chelsea Royal Diner (great!) & other eateries are nearby!
For bathing, enjoy the Colonial Spa! $20 for an awesome pool, salt water hot tub, saunas & showers!

The space

Mahalo Art Center's Deluxe Retreat space in the Mahalo Rose Encantadora sound healing temple is located by the woods and an intermittent stream. It is part of Mahalo Art Center, a sanctuary for artists, cultural creatives and people caring for the evolving soul. Our long driveway is off of a main road and 2 miles from downtown Brattleboro, so it is easy to get here, yet privately located amidst the other Mahalo Art Center dwelling places and art studios.

Guest access

Mahalo Art Center's 22 foot wide octagonal sound healing temple with a cathedral ceiling is yours for the duration of your stay! It is not a yurt, as some people tend to call it. This is a full building with great insulation and heat when the stove is operating. This option can sleep 1-4 people. It is ideal for a personal retreat, for simple get-aways and for a healthy, off-the-grid place to sleep well. Please note, no food is allowed in the temple.

Interaction with guests

This choice has two options:
1) An exceptional space for your own private retreat alone or with friends.
2) A retreat led by Mahalo Art Center founder, Luz Elena Morey, a transpersonal, nature-connected drama and expressive arts therapist. These guided retreats can focus on one or several of the following: gaining clarity about one's life, accessing and strengthening one's gifts, releasing/transforming PTSD-related symptoms and obstacles, getting in touch with one's vision or dreams, and making one's most beautiful dreams into reality.
Please contact host for more information about this option.

Other things to note

Mahalo Art Center is oriented especially to serving leaders, teachers, healers, visionaries and people interested in living conscious, creative and fulfilling lives of service, engaged with nature as an ally in the process of living fully.
We offer ancient and modern nature-connected healing and expressive arts (including music, dance, visual arts, word arts and theater) that enhance connection with self, other, community, nature and the Great Mystery.

This was a beautiful lovely place! We recommend it. We used (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) directions and it took us the wrong place. So just know that Rt 9 is locally referred to as Western and then you will find it! Enjoy.

The Mahalo Art Center Rustic Retreat is indeed rustic, and just what we'd hoped it would be. We unfortunately didn't get to meet Luz Elena, because she was away for the weekend, but we found the door open and a nice welcome note. Luz also gave us a great recommendation on where to eat vegan in Brattleboro (the restaurant was excellent), as well as a nearby farmers' market. The Art Center is located just off of the main road leading into town, but traffic noise was not an issue at all... it was very quiet, and cozy in front of the wood stove, where we spent an entire rainy Saturday reading, talking and making music. We brought instruments of our own, but the yurt had several there to use (if I had been able to meet Luz, I would have made her a generous offer on her little African thumb piano, which was gorgeous). The futon is double bed size, which was fine for a couple of snugglers. The composting toilet was INSIDE (hooray!), and had abundant instructions for its proper use (no odor issues at all). Please note in the description that there is no running water in the yurt, so you'll have to bring your own for drinking, hand washing and brushing of teeth (outside for those last two). There's a motel/spa nearby where you can swim in the pool and have a shower, sauna or hot tub for a fee, but we didn't bother. It's kind of like a very luxurious camping trip, in a remarkable, artsy space... perfect for old hippies like us. Our trip started badly, as my sweetheart came down with a bad cold, and the morning before we left I suffered a fracture of my toe which left me sporting a huge orthopedic boot and a cane! But our little temporary home was so romantic that none of that mattered. We wished we could have stayed longer.

Luz Elena is very nice and put effort into creating a comfortable stay! Awesome composting toilet, very clean and 0 odor bathroom. No running water or shower available on site as she mentions in her description. Stuffy and not a lot of airflow so if you major allergy issues this might be a consideration. Otherwise nice space true to appearance in photos. Thanks Luz Elena!

Thank you for your feedback! There was a fan in there for most of the summer but perhaps it got taken out before you got there? I am so sorry. I will make a note of both of these things!

This is a beautiful space in a very quiet and tranquil spot. It was exceptionally clean and the owner was great about communications and any questions we had. The space has a very nice positive vibe about it and just what we needed for a quiet weekend away.

It was the perfect place to disconnect and really relax for the night. It's beautiful, clean and so peaceful. We hope to stay there again the next time we're in Vermont.
