I had a GREAT stay at Lorne's apartment. It perfectly fit my needs of a very comfortable place in a fantastic location. One of the cleanest places I've rented, beautifully designed, and well equipped with everything you'd need.
There are a few things that might make this rental less than ideal for others though. I've communicated all of these to Lorne and although he didn't reply, my hope is that he will be working on making improvements for others.
- The stairwell and floor above are extremely noisy. I don't think the neighbors above were being excessively loud but footfalls in the stairwell especially carried since it was right by the bed. Since I was there the week of the George Street Festival they were typically getting in at 2am and waking me up. I ended up leaving them a note and after that they were super quiet coming in. It looks as if that apt is also a short term rental since it had the same type of push button combo door lock.
- The window in the kitchen brings in a lot of light right in front of you while laying in bed. An idea I had was that one of those lightweight curtains could be hung in front of the closet and drawers that are under the kitchen counter. This would make a huge improvement not only in terms of light but if someone was sleeping on the couch, it would provide some privacy between the two areas.
- The front door really should have some sort of secondary lock once you are inside. The combo on the outside would be really easy to see from the street and there's the unknown about when the combo was last changed. Especially as a single woman staying there, having a way to deadbolt the door at night would've made me feel a lot safer. It would also be good to have a lockable door from the basement steps into the apt. Others (with a key) can get into the basement from the outside and having at least a latch on the inside would go a long way.
Really enjoyed my week - St.John's is amazing city and there's so much to see in the area. Highly recommend Gatherall's (URL HIDDEN) for a whale/puffin boat tour and So-Full Food Tour (URL HIDDEN) Fantastic!
