Nestled in tranquility Sanjiv's cottage, now run by Billy and their daughter Panita in memory of Sanjiv, in Aira Holme Chotta Simla is scenic and cosy. Located far enough from the revelling crowds it is serene and homely. Surrounded by deodars, the cottage is enveloped by nature within the town.

The space

You get one bedroom with an attached bathroom and coupled twin beds. The bathroom is equipped with modern conveniences and a geyser for 24 hour hot water. Breakfast is included in the tariff.

Guest access

You have access to the living room. There are also various outdoor sitting areas where you can sit amongst the deodar and apricot trees and relax with a cup of tea and just enjoy the magnificent views that our home has to offer. There is an attic which is Billy's work space. There are 2 other private bedrooms where we live.

Interaction with guests

We will be happy to assist you in getting taxis and advise you on sight seeing. However, we do not provide any guided tours but can recommend people who do.

Thank you so much Billy Uncle and team for such a beautiful place you offered for our family. The house is well maintained and has the perfect charm and character, which more than trebled the happiness we derived from our stay in Shimla. A special shout out for the caretakers Mohan and his team. I am certainly going to visit this property and would surely suggest it to my friends. Regards, Vishal. P.S. It's a book lover's and an artist's paradise.

We loved our stay in this very special place. The host, the 3 dogs, the staff at the house, all made us very welcome and took so well care of us. We also enjoyed wonderful breakfast and specially prepared home cooked dinners. Highly recommended for those who seek an immersion into the culture and history of Shimla with a great character such as Billy.

The host, Billy, was helpful in organising reliable cab services for us from Chandigarh to Shimla as well as for our day excursions and journey to Manali. We enjoyed his company during breakfast dinner and got many inputs for our future trips to other parts of Himachal . Pluses - there are several... # magnificent views from the bedroom # comfortable room for our family of 4 # we felt at home and had access to the living room, dining room and washer ( especially helpful cos we were on a long trip away from home) # hot delicious home-cooked meals (bf included, dinner at an extra cost) # breakfast was for the first two days on the terrace - mindblowing views of the mountain town # the short walk upto the house is beautiful surrounded by deodars ☺ # friendly hosts pemma cuddles made us feel very welcome # cab services available at the gate - also coordinated by the housekeeper, Mohan #an experienced team has been put in place by Billy family which made our stay comfortable We wanted a peek into the life in a himachali home. And we were lucky to have found a cozy one. Would definitely recommend it to friends who want to travel to Shimla. Minus - only one - the wifi was not effective so if you plan on working here, please discuss with the host beforehand or bring along a 4G dongle !!

Sanjiv's Aira Holme retreat is a colonial style bungalow and hence oozes charm and character. The hosts have lived there ( though Sanjiv is no more) and hence their personal touch and tastes are very much a part of the experience. I found myself enjoying the resultant glimpses we got into their lives. Far better than the sterilised, sanitised, personality less experience of hotels. The helpers Mohan and Laxmi are both pictures of courtesy and thoughtfulness. Food is good and homely. The dogs are very friendly. My kids got over their fears pretty quickly and stayed engaged with the dogs... The location is a little tucked away and in a corner and hence affords itself to a quiet holiday. The bedrooms have very good views. The beds are large and can sleep kids up to 6-7 yrs age with parents. It's a little distant from mall road and hence not suitable if you are looking for milling with the crowds. All in all, I had a great time.

Billy is an artist by profession, an environmentalist, photographer, writer and he was the head of INTACH. His wide range of interests on the journey of the self is reflected in the collection of books on art, architecture, culture, poetry, philosophy, mythology, religion.
My wife Sanjiv was born and brought up in Simla, later we settled down here. Unfortunately, she passed away in April 2016. The B&B was started by her and my daughter Panita and I continue running it in her memory. This cottage was constructed in 1920, as a billiards room and guesthouse, which she inherited from father.
Sanjiv was an avid gardener, there are a large variety of flowers and foliage planted throughout the property. This is a refreshing respite from the general concrete of town construction.
