Ceramicist Sue Binns and husband Henry have created two sweet houses side by side on a quiet pedestrian alley in what is arguably the gem of the white villages, Gaucin. Both houses are nicely furnished and comfortably equipped for a great holiday.

The space

We think that La Ceramista 1 has just about everything that two people need for a wonderful holiday in Andalucia. It has comfy beds, nice linen, good pots and pans, the essential Braun juicer and the wonderful view. The downstairs bedroom is shady enough to stay tolerably cool in the summer nights and the top terrace is partly covered for best of both worlds.

La Ceramista 1 has three floors. On the ground floor there is bedroom with two single beds, which can be joined together or not as you choose, with an en suite shower and a separate loo and basin. On the first floor there is a kitchen, living, dining area. The kitchen area is simple and has a sink, gas hob and fridge, but no oven. There are nice ceramics from Granada, as well as from Sue's studio. The living area has a built in banquette, a wood burning stove and french windows with a balcony. The wood burning stove keeps the house cosy in the winter and there are additional electric heaters in the bedroom and bathroom downstairs.

The top floor is all terrace, one half outside, with great views and the other half covered, with comfy cushions on the banquettes. There is also terrace furniture and a barbecue.

This place is a real gem! An authentic old town house but beautifully modernized to have everything you need for a relaxing getaway. The rooftop terrace is the real treasure with an absolutely incredible view. The pictures here on airbnb doesn't do the place full justice. The communication with the host was excellent. Highly recommend it and would like to come back.

Beautiful house in a quiet village with stunning views from the roof terrace-highly recommended. One note: the village is in the mountains and as such the charming winding streets & lanes involve a fair bit of climbing so not ideal for anyone with knee problems, etc.

This is the perfect little house, with a great location in Gaucin. It is designed in a beautiful and functional way and has a cosy and lived-in atmosphere. We appreciated our stay a lot and are happy to recommend it and our hosts to everyone.

Me and my husband had our 4 days of honeymoon in Henry and Sue's lovely little white house in Gaucín. It was the most adorable house in every way and with a very peaceful Gaucín out of season it was perfect for us. We loved everything about it, our slow mornings viewing over Gaucín all the way to Gibraltar from the balcony on the top floor or the living room, the nice useful kitchen, the sofa that is build in the house very delicate and the fireplace burning in the evening. We didn't meet Henry and Sue but they had made such a useful guide for everything they emailed us before arriving and it helped us to make our trip smooth and easy. We can warmly recommend Henry and Sue's charming little house in Gaucín and would love to come back. Laura and Morten.

Our hosts were very reliable. Whenever I emailed Henry, he responded right away. The house was very clean and tidy. When we arrived, it was windy and very cold, 3 degrees centigrade. Although it was tempting to sit on the top floor terrace, the ice cold wind kept us inside the house. The view from the roof terrace is fabulous. Inside the house, however, there is much less of a view. Ceramista 1 is very old and quaint. We ran out of gas for the hot water heater one night. Luckily the hosts have caretakers in the village who are on hand to help. We were really impressed when we called the caretaker and he showed up less than five minutes later. After some fumbling with the pad lock, he changed the gas tank and everything worked ok. But the water heater seemed to live its own life. When I was in the shower and fully soaped up, the hot water suddenly disappeared and I had to finish showering in freezing cold water. About 15 minutes later the hot water miraculously returned. We rented the house for one week and had planned to go for walks in the area during that time. But we have to admit that longing for warmer weather got the better of us and we left for Costa de la Luz for three days - to Tarifa and Vejer de la Frontera. We also went to Ronda and to Olvera where we hired bikes and went on the Via Verde de la Sierra - the highlight of our stay in the area. (We tried to get tickets to El Chorro, but that proved to be a tricky affair. In order to obtain tickets, you need to make lunch or dinner reservations at a nearby restaurant which in turn gives you tickets to El Chorro. However, you need to call the restaurant and book min. two days ahead. The restaurant will ask for your passport number and credit card number. We were told that it would be easier to obtain tickets in a few months).

The house is just the perfect spot to spend some very relaxing days. The rooms are cosy, well equipped, and just perfect to hangout inside as well as on the rooftop-terrace with its magnificent views over to Gibraltar and Morocco. Even in winter, the surroundings are stunning and although many restraurants were closed, we experienced Gaucin as a very welcoming place with a great atmosphere. Altogether we really enjoyed the time there and did not want to leave in the end.
