It's a guesthouse with rooms provided. Place is close to a bus station (5-8 min walk), around a lot of food spots, downstairs laundry. Owner provided a map with indications how to find it so it was easy. Room was big and clean with facilities to make tea/coffee. Owner barely speaks English but with online translator I didn't have problems to communicate. My room was facing the street so night time is little bit noisy, but earplugs solved this problem. I recommend this place as it's best location in town!
This place may not be as elegant and posh as a five star hotel but it certainly comes with an excellent host who is responsive, polite and patient. On the day of my check-in, the host messaged me in the morning to inform me that he will be picking us (my boyfriend and I) up from the Nantou bus station. I explained that I did not purchase a data plan and as such, may have difficulty in locating him at the bus station. In response, he suggested that I simply drop him a message before I leave my current accommodations so as to estimate my time of arrival in Puli. He also provided me with his car plate number and told me to find him in front of KFC. As it turns out, he was there waiting for us when we reached and things went without a hitch! Subsequently, he gave us recommendations on places to go and eateries to visit. (There is an excellent local eatery right below the apartment that sells simple local dishes such as yang chun mian, gan mian and lu rou fan!) Also, as he had an empty room that was not currently rented out, he gave us a choice and let us decide if we wanted to use the other room instead. We decided to go for the other room as it was quieter, located farther from the streets, and came with a mesmerizing wallpaper of the aquatic world. Later in the day, we took a cab to the Paper Dome (zhi jiao tang). Without a way to call for a cab back, I was left with no choice but to text the host and ask if he could help us to call for a cab. Surprisingly (and amazingly!), the host volunteered to come over and pick us up. He then drove us to 18C (shi ba du C) and left us to enjoy our time there, promising to return in an hour to bring us to Hu Tou Shan (tiger head mountain) to look at the stars and have a bird eye's view of Puli. All in all, Shu Bang was an excellent and accommodating host. My experience with him was a 10/10. Also, the room was spacious and there is really little to complain about besides the mosquitoes in the washroom. Mineral water is definitely provided in excess of your needs. The lack of an elevator is merely a minor inconvenience as the rooms are all located on the second floor. Also, you can make use of the bikes provided for free, and there is a self laundry service located right below the rooms. Should I ever return to Puli, I would love to stay here again! Thank you, Shu Bang!
