Separate cosy one room cottage, embedded in native bush hillside with stunning views across the magnificent Lyttelton harbour to the Banks Peninsula. Access by own car from Christchurch for harbourside living. Tranquility and birdsong, fruit trees and berries, strolls through the bush, along the stream, down to the jetty, along the beach or up the summit. Walk up to see the llamas with hospitable hosts willing to share their paradise with you. Very basic amenities. Outdoor bathroom.
We call this space our Summer House. It is a separate space well built out of a recycled children's treehouse slightly down the garden from our beautiful home, Fernhill in Governor's Bay near Christchurch. Fernhill overlooks Governor's Bay and with a magnificent outlook to the Banks Peninsula. We have cats, dogs, chickens and llamas. The Summer House is a place where you can relax on the small veranda and enjoy watching the light change over the Hills. But don't think for a moment that it's only suitable for summer time because it is extremely cosy in winter with very effective combustion heater fired by wood grown on the property. The Summer House is a separate room with a bed. So tranquil and remote. Everyone who stays comes away refreshed. The birdsong morning and evening is exquisite.
The only access is by walking down through the trees. It's not far. The toilet is out-of-doors composting.
Interaction with guests
We are usually around to offer any help required. We tend to be late risers in the weekends.
Other things to note
Fernhill is set high in the valley therefore access is steep ask for assistance if you feel concerned about the drive in. There is no handy supermarket, however the Governors Bay Pub does great meals. That's useful because the Summer House has very basic amenities; cold running water, no power - just a small gas stove.
Please don't feed our dogs or cats. Smoking outside is fine.

Sara and I live in a lovely place, Governors Bay. We enjoy sharing our apartment and the rustic Summer House with guests and have had many people to stay with us over the years. We enjoy food and good company. We have quite a few pets, dogs, cats and llamas.
