Welcome to Dragonfly Flats, a sun-drenched gem in the Santa Cruz mountains overlooking the ocean. I hand-built this cabin on my ranch of 30 years. Cozy interior w/ outdoor kitchen and soaking tub on the deck!
Price includes 11% County Occupancy Tax

The space

Dragonfly Flats is a serene getaway that's built by hand and perched in the mountains overlooking the sea. The cabin offers rare access to the publicly protected Davenport coastline and mountains, and is the perfect retreat for two.

The cozy structure features skylights and airy french doors to maximize access to nature, and is furnished with rustic ranch-style decor. The space includes a bedroom with a queen-sized bed, a bathroom, an outdoor/indoor kitchen with full amenities (fridge, stove, oven, microwave), and sunny porch with adirondack chairs and soaking tub, and an outdoor laundry area with washer/dryer.

The beach is a 3-mile drive away, along historic Swanton Road. Keep going another 5 minutes south on Highway One to explore the postcard stamp-sized town of Davenport, where you can pick up a freshly baked breakfast at our beloved Whale City Bakery. Linger a little longer to explore the artists studios and antique shops along the coastline. After 30 years of living here, we have lots of local recommendations for secret beaches, hiking and "U-Pick-Em" strawberry picking :) Stay for a weekend or stay for a few weeks!

Guest access

The property is a 5-acre ranch that has three structures (including the cabin). The host lives at the main house on the property and full-time tenants live in the adjacent studio (both about 400 feet away from the cabin). The cabin was constructed with privacy in mind and is enclosed by trees on one side and a golden grassy hill on the other. You are welcome to explore the gardens as you wish and please pick fruit during your stay here.

Interaction with guests

I'm typically available to greet you, and if I'm not home, my property managers, Wendy & Chris are often here to welcome you and show you the cabin. Aside from that, we all live quite privately on the property, so you'll enjoy privacy during your stay. If you explore the other side of the property, you may see us gardening or tending to the bees or chickens that we sometimes raise here. Of course, if you have questions or need anything at all, you are welcome to swing by the main house!

Other things to note

Access: there is no wifi/internet at the cabin and very limited cell coverage. We do have internet at the main house on the property, so of course you are always welcome to swing by if you need it! Remember you will mostly be out of service during your stay here.

History: The cabin is named for the historic local nickname of this property -- Dragonfly Flats -- because of the dragonflies that congregate in this sunny area. In addition, you'll see lots of extraordinary wildlife (butterflies, bobcats, hummingbirds, owls, foxes) on the property.

We have a very laid-back approach to rules -- our main ask is to be respectful of the other residents and neighbors. In general, this is a very quiet environment that's all about tranquil relaxation in nature. So, a few guiding principles:

* Respect the quiet of nature, so please no loud music, and generally keep things quiet after 10pm.

* No smoking. Fire risk is extreme in this area.

* We do not allow pets. We have a dog (a chocolate lab named Billie) and cat (an orange kitty named Señor) that live on the property, so you may see them wandering around as well.

You must also acknowledge
Pet(s) live on property - friendly Chocolate Lab (Billie) and a cat (Tink). Are not allowed in the cabin.

Smoke detector
Carbon monoxide detector
First aid kit

On Fridays and Saturdays the minimum stay is 2 nights.

This was a great stop on our way down route 1! The fresh eggs and apples from the tree made it even better. Relaxing and pleasant stay!

This little cabin had some beautiful views to wake up to, a super cute outdoor soaking tub, and an outdoor patio overlooking the gorgeous trees... it was a wonderful experience!

This place is magic. The hosts are the best we've had yet, the rental was one of those rare places that exceeds your wildest expectations and we cannot wait to come back. If you're considering this place, pull the trigger and enjoy. You won't be disappointed!

This refuge, nestled in a hilly forest off the PCH between the tiny towns of Davenport and Pescadero, is like chicken soup for the soul. There is neither WiFi nor Cellular signal, which you will find refreshing if you need a break from constant "connection." We could appreciate some simple joys; like the delicious fruiting apple and orange trees, the pacific breeze whispering through fragrant fall pines, and making some breakfast + coffee in the well-equipped and spacious kitchen. I would advise to arrive back at the cabin from your days' adventures before dark, as the drive up is easier for newbies by daylight. Bring some food to keep for cooking. Some pajamas and warm slippers or socks will be useful for nighttime. Enjoy!

My husband and I stayed at Wendy and Dick's little cabin in Davenport the day after our wedding as a way to unwind and relax after our wedding and it was perfect. We loved how quiet and private the place was and everything from the friendly dog Billie that greeted us to the apple trees and chickens. Our favorite part was the outdoor soaking tub under the stars though. We look forward to coming back.

This is my second time at the cabin. The first time was colder in February and this time in September was warm and it was great both times. There were so many apples on the trees. I'll be making an apple tarte tatin with all the apples he gave me and the book about Santa Cruz he has in the cabin was very insightful. Thank you Dick, Wendy, and Chris!

I am father to three grown daughters and have been inspired by their adventures around the world on Airbnb, so decided to try hosting myself.

Over the past 30 years, I've recreated my rural childhood for my family in the Santa Cruz Mountains -- what we have named "The Ranch." Last year, as I started to think about retirement, my family and I designed and hand-built a cabin on our property to start hosting Airbnb guests for fun.

My hosting style is all about comfort and privacy. I have lots of practice with many years of my daughters and their husbands coming to visit :) I like to be available to greet guests and make sure you're comfortable in the cabin, and after that, you'll enjoy total privacy at the cabin. I live in the main house with my dog, Billie, a few hundred feet away, so you if you ever need anything (wifi, fresh farm eggs from the chickens, etc), you're welcome to swing by.
